In the contents page does not include many thumbnail images, this is so that the page does not seem overcrowded. The sections are in boxes so that everything looks separate and the whole thing is just easy to navigate around for the reader. The competition has a lack background so that it appears more important and the use of an exclamation mark also adds a dramatic effect.

The double page spread follows the conventions of a typical magazine article because I have used columns to keep the traditional style.

I have used a different colour for the questions and answers so that they are easy to read, this means that if the reader is looking for something specific, it will be easier to find.

There are three images of the artist, taken from different angles so that they don’t make the page seem too “flat” they give the page dimension and this draws the readers eye to them. Also, one of the pictures has an abstract background which contrasts the other two, it is also bigger so that the reader can tell it is the main image.

I have chosen to put the barcode at the bottom of the page so that it is the last thing that is seen, it is important but only when it is being scanned, nobody really wants to look at it. The main sell line is at the bottom but is in a bigger font and is highlighed around the outside.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

How…How…

Colour scheme

Blue can be a dramatic colour but also attractive to a younger

audience. The black and white used are for the text and shadows etc.

and to make things stand out more. Red and yellow help to attract a

younger audience but they are not used too much so that older people

will like it too.

The name “Hard Vinyl” relates to

an older reader because they would have had

records when they were younger but it also

appeals to a younger audience as it seems

retro and stylish.

The front cover

The “Free plectrums” offer would appeal to guitar or bass players plus they are flat so

would be easy to attach. The main photo includes a guitar which ties into

the free plectrums ideas. The masthead stands

out as it has an opaque background and is a separate part of the

cover.The

content

Includes a SHORT editors letter because a lot of people said they don’t read it but I want to stay with the

conventions and not break tradition.

Language

Informal but not “slangy” to appeal to a more mature audience but with a laid back take on life

What media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• Future publishing would publish my magazine as they have a large collection of guitar magazines and they would know where to go with it and have a lot of experience on what sells and what does not.#

• My magazine would hopefully fill any gaps that they do not already cover.

I used a bright colour scheme to draw the reader in, the photo on the front cover is a natural pose and she is smiling, this makes the magazine appear to be fun and casual. The colours tie in together but do not blend.

The language used is informal but not colloquial, this is to attract the more relaxed but not illiterate reader.

I used a red column to stand out from the blue so that it is the first thing you see and is easy to navigate.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• I have benefited from the use of photo editing software and now feel I have a better understanding of how to manipulate an image to suit a purpose.

• Using publisher 2007 has helped me work around the new setup and experiment with backgrounds, fonts, picture editing etc.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have learnt how to tailor a magazine to fit a target audience and that the conventions of magazines do not change much from genre to genre. I feel I have improved my photography skills, and know what kind of photo to take for a magazine.
