Preps attending full time
This week our Prep students start attending full time and while this may come (at least initially), as a little
bit of a shock to the system and they may feel a little fatigued, it is important that we continue to support
them through this week and into next week which will be the last week of term. Getting to bed early is the
best way to recharge your batteries so as we travel later into the term, it is a great idea to make sure
students are getting a good nights sleep.
School Council Annual General Meeting
Tonight will see the final meeting of our 2015-16 School Council which will then be closely followed by the
first meeting of our 2016 – 17 School Council and our Annual General Meeting where we will appoint our
new executive officers, and decide on our co-opted members for this year. I look forward to seeing all of
our school councillors at the earlier time of 6:30pm for our meeting tonight
School Council Training
It will be a big week for our school councillors as many will attend the school council training on
Wednesday evening as well which will be hosted by Mathew Flinders Girls Secondary College and begins
from 6:30pm.
Moonlight Movie Night Feedback
We would love to hear your thoughts on the moonlight movie night to make it even better for next year so
please feel free to visit our website newsletter page and complete the survey. Thank you to those who
have already given feedback.
Sports Academy Excursion
Today our Sports Academy students are travelling to Barwon Heads to learn about Stand-Up Paddle
Boarding. Next week we will be able to see and hear from them about this sport and the key challenges
they faced in learning how to navigate these boards.
House Cross Country coming up Tuesday next week –March 22nd
Next Tuesday will see the running of the Clifton Springs Primary School House Cross-Country. This event is
always great event and each year our students do an amazing job to cheer and support each other as they
strive to achieve their personal best. Last year the winning house was Coriyule, but Bayshore, Dell and
Springs will be keen to take out the title this year. Every runner collects points for their House so
maximum participation gives your House the best chance for success.
PARENT HELPERS NEEDED PLEASE
ANY PARENTS WHO ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO HELP WITH THE
HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY ON TUE 22ND OF MARCH BETWEEN 9.00-11.00am
COULD YOU PLEASE EMAIL MRS SARAH TOLLEY – [email protected] or contact the office.
Duties will include course marshalling, lap counting, timing and point recording.
Photo Boards
As part of their roll, the House Captains are using the photo boards outside the gym to communicate with
our school community about some of the wonderful things that have been happening around our school.
With assistance from Mrs Hales, the House Captains are choosing the photo categories and are putting up
a display of photos so next time you are wandering through the Gym foyer, take the time to stop and look
at some of the images on the photo boards.
Last Week of Term– Assembly on Thursday at 2pm Next week is the last week of Term 1 with school breaking up on Thursday March 24th before Good
Friday. There will still be an assembly on Thursday at 2pm and students will be dismissed at 2:30pm.
After School Care is available from 2:30pm.
Transition Feedback Forms
A feedback form has been sent home with all our Preps and new families to the school. We appreciate all
feedback and suggestions and would like to have the feedback forms returned as soon as possible.
Until next week I wish everyone a wonderful week and remind all families that maximising attendance is a
critical factor in your child achieving their potential so, remember it’s not OK to be away unless you’re
sick!

Art Room News It has been a busy start to the year for the art program. After a few weeks of
working from a trolley in classrooms while the portables for the
senior students were completed, we are now in the art room.
The students in every class have been working hard to create a
variety of wonderful designs to decorate seven sheep which were
displayed at the Bellarine Show last weekend. Every class is now
working on a new project whilst the end of term approaches rapidly.
A big thank you to everyone who helped us collect drink cans and the
Year 5 and 6 students who volunteered to work through two
lunchtimes to complete enough drink can flowers to make their
sheep look great. Jill Petersen Visual Arts Teacher
2016 HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY
For students in Years 3-6
Tuesday March 22nd 9am-11am at CSPS
This is a compulsory part of the PE Program
will all students earning points for their
House, even if they walk.
Students will compete in the age they turn on
their birthday this year.
9/10yr old students will compete over 2km
with 11, 12 and 13 yr olds competing over 3km.
The top 8 runners in both boys and girls age
groups will be invited to represent our school
at the next level, if they meet qualifying times. Parent helpers are needed to assist with
timekeeping, marshalling, point recording or
lap counting. If you can spare some time
between 9-11am please email Sarah Tolley
This week at school your child/ren will be involved in a whole school writing activity that gives us the opportunity to see how our Writing Program is progressing across all levels. Every class from P-6 will have the same writing prompt (see above), and we would like you to become involved by talking to your children to generate lots of ideas for a narrative. These ideas can be written in their diaries or the children could draw pictures and bring them to school to prompt them while they are writing. A great way to have this discussion is while you are having dinner (preferably without the TV on!) or in the car on the way to any activities. Happy chatting!
GEELONG COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

If you received a gift card and don’t wish to
use it, please return it to the office so it
can be forwarded to another family.
We thank Geelong Community Foundation

Women’s Day
The first International Women’s Day was held on March 19th 2011 when more than one million
European women and men rallied for the right of women to vote and work. The inspiration
came from a New York march against poor working conditions and child labour, held in 1908.
Peace, human rights, and social, economic and political issues have therefore always been an
important focus of International Women’s Day. The first International Women’s Day in
Australia was held on 25th March 1928. From its inception International Women’s Day has
stood for equality between men and women. The Colours—Symbolically, white represents purity, purple is for dignity and self-respect, and green stands for hope and new life.
WHY PRACTICE BEING MINDFUL?
The way we interact with our kids has a huge impact on the way they think about themselves
and their levels of personal resilience. Ellen Langer and team, a world-renowned mindfulness
researcher, found that children not only prefer to interact with mindful adults, but actually
devalue themselves following interactions with mindless adults (Langer, Cohen & Djikic, 2010).
The benefits of mindfulness with children.
Research shows that mindfulness training increases connectivity in the frontal lobe of
the brain, which is linked to improved attention, memory processing and decision
making abilities
Mindfulness training involves tuning in to internal and external experiences
with curiosity, resulting in increased self-awareness, social awareness, and self-
confidence.
Mindfulness training increases children’s ability to self-regulate their emotions,
especially difficult emotions such as fear and anger, through breathing and other
grounding techniques.
Mindfulness has been shown to improve empathy or the ability to understand what
another person is thinking or feeling, which improves children’s awareness of others and
helps them to build positive relationships.
Mindfulness and childhood mental health
Mindfulness training has been to shown to reduce the severity
of depression, anxiety and ADHD in children.
Mindfulness builds resilience by giving children skills to help them to cope better with
stress, as well as engage more fully with themselves and the world.
