5 additional points are added to a final grade higher than 70 in approved Honors courses and 10 points are added to a final grade higher than 70 in approved Advanced Placement (AP) courses
The year consists of two semester grades which will average together, along with an end of course assessment such as the EOC or final cumulative exam to give a yearly average.

Attendance is taken by class period
Students who are chronically absent in the 9th grade are 30% less likely to graduate on time
Absences also impact a student attending prom, running for a class officer position, and being on homecoming court. Students who have more than 10 unexcused absences from school will be denied their parking privileges.
Students with perfect attendance are recognized each month and others are invited to attend PBIS activities mid year and at the end of the year.
In the event that a student is tardy to school, the student will report to the attendance clerk for a late pass. This will count as a tardy to class.
5 tardies= assigned to lunch detention
10 tardies= lose driving privileges for 3 days or assigned 3 days of lunch detention
15 tardies= assigned ISS/lose one week of driving privileges
Those credits must generally include the following:
4 English
4 Math
4 Science
3 Social Science
1 Health/PE
7 Electives
*Most, if not all, four-year and two-year colleges now require two years of the same foreign language. Contact the colleges for specific information.
Counselors will be at the middle school the week of March 9th to help 8th graders select their electives online.
Academic courses will be selected for students based on MAP scores
Course requests will be sent home to parents to be reviewed and approved.

Incoming 9th graders are eligible to take the first course in each pathway sequence (unless
they took an intro course in MS for HS credit)

CTAE (Career, Technical, and Agriculture Education) Pathway: Career pathways are a series of three or four sequenced courses within a area of study. Once these sequenced courses are completed, the student will have the opportunity to take national certificate or licensure assessments that will aid them in preparation for the world of work or further assist them in continuing their education at numerous levels.
9th grade student promoted to 10th grade 5 credits
1 credit must be Math and 1 credit must be English
10th grade student promoted to 11th grade 11 credits
2 credits must be Math, 2 credits must be English, and 1 credit must be Science
11th grade student promoted to 12th grade 17 credits
3 credits must be Math, 3 credits mustbe English, and 2 credit must be Science, 1 Social Studies

Class of 2017 & beyond
Students must receive 4 credits in the following types of courses in addition to maintaining a 3.0 HOPE GPA
▪ Advanced Algebra or an equivalent or higher course
▪ Chemistry, Physics, or an equivalent or higher course
▪ AP course or Dual Enrollment course
▪ Spanish II or French II or higher course

Dual enrollment programs provide opportunities for JCHS high school students to take college-level courses and earn concurrent credit toward a high school diploma and a college degree while still in high school.
