This statue of Venerable Mary Potter, Foundress of the Sisters of the LittleCompany of Mary, was a gift from our California hospitals. MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

AND HEALTH CARE CENTER received this gift as we began to celebrate our 60thanniversary this year.

HAPPY 2011, DEAR FRIENDS!

We are pleased to be able to share highlights of our collaborative efforts to improve health withinthe communities we serve. I use the term “we” because without your support during 2010, none of theseinitiatives, which brought care to people, would have been accomplished.

As you probably realize, many of our local residents do not have health insurance, are frail, elderly, orsimply do not know where to turn to have their health care needs met. These difficulties have beencompounded by the recent prolonged economic downturn in our communities, our state, and the nation.

In this report of your Foundation, you will see how we, with your help, worked in 2010 to “Be forOthers!” as we carried out our mission, the mission of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, andthe vision of Venerable Mary Potter.

During the past calendar year, your financial generosity allowed us to provide mammograms, ultrasounds, stereotactic biopsies, prescriptions, diabetic education, hearing and vision testing and services, and other medical procedures for the underinsured and uninsured of the communities we serve, especially in Dubois, Martin, Orange, Pike, and Spencer Counties.

The Foundation, again because of your contributions, sponsored “Health Walks”, provided andmaintained an aquarium in our Pediatric Unit, distributed bicycle helmets to area school children, sponsored “Celebrate Today” for area cancer patients and their families, conducted free, public estateplanning seminars, and provided a special program on those living at or below the poverty level.

Your financial contributions made all these successes possible, and you are the reason for all that we do.You continue to be the reason why we, as a local community hospital, are as successful as we are.“Thank you” seems inadequate, but all of us at the Foundation and Hospitalthank you most sincerely. May you and your families experience good healthand much happiness in 2011, and may God Bless You for your continuedsupport of Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Best regards until next time,

Michael A. JonesExecutive Director

Because of the recent, extremely generous gift of property fromMrs. Theresa Vonderschmitt, “Memorial Lodge” was the scenefor the first ever “Hospital Hoedown”which featured, as thename implies, ‘Denim, Dinner, & Dancing’. Over 350 friends ofthe Hospital and Foundation attended this event, held in midOctober. Good food, great music, and a lot of fun were had

by everyone in attendance, and the NETproceeds from this event will assist uninsuredand underinsured patients of the Lange-FuhsCancer Center.

HEALING GARDENFor over two years, the possibility of a “Healing Garden” here atMEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND HEALTH CARE CENTER weighed on the mindsof Charlotte Donan and Beth Dawkins. Both women felt that such aspace would be a tremendous benefit for our patients, their visitors, andeven staff, and it would allow all to have a retreat to the world outsidethe confines of the hospital. Driven by their passion for this project,Beth and Charlotte solicited all the dollars necessary to construct this“Healing Garden” which is on the east side of the Hospital by thecurrent physicians’ entrance.

BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTYAnnette Lawler, County Extension Director & Extension Educator of the Purdue Extension of Harrison County, addressed a large crowd in the hospital’s Medical Arts Building Conference Center. Her topic was “Bridges Outof Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities”, and her program dealt with various socioeconomiclevels and how one needs to adapt when dealing with each. It was educational, poignant, and very enlighteningfor all in attendance.

One of the Foundation’s Vision Statements says that Memorial Hospital Foundation will “helpsupport community health, wellness, and medical programs which champion healthy lifestyles.”In keeping with this Vision Statement, theFoundation provided opportunities for patients inour communities to just “walk” for fun, health, freewater and a pedometer that measures how manysteps have been taken. So far, these walks have beenheld in Ferdinand, Huntingburg, and Jasper, butthere are plans to expand to other communitiesserved by the Hospital.

Over the past eighteen months Frank has met withmore than forty local families to help them createan estate plan or to review their current plans. Heutilizes his vast experiences while tapping into theknowledge of Thompson and Associates'experienced team of estate planning professionalsof CPAs, lawyers, financial planners and others. Many of our friends and donors have found thatFrank and his resources are able to reduce theirestate taxes and reduce their estate expenses, whileincreasing assets that they have chosen to leave totheir heirs.

Frank's approach is "value based" and will helpyou answer the following questions:• Is there a way to provide myself and my

family with greater, tax-reduced income?• What are the best uses of my assets?• Is there a way to increase what I leave to

my heirs?• Should I distribute their inheritances over a

period of years?

The entire processmay take betweenfour to six meetingsdepending upon yourneeds. Monthlymeetings with Frankare 30-60 minutes inlength. They can beheld anywhere: yourhome, your office,in the privateconference room ofthe Foundationoffice, and even inthe presence ofyour family if you so desire.
