“The quartet’s style falls squarely inthe Mainstream of jazz and it’s a
gem… Kansas City Suite is entertain-ing, exciting and perfectly rendered.”

“There has always been great jazz inKansas City — thanks to the Doug
Talley Quartet, there still is.”BOB BERNOTAS
MIDWEST JAZZ MAGAZINE
JAZZ history evokes images of a color-ful past when musicians in smokeyspeakeasies played long into the night theclassic tunes of swing and bebop. TheDoug Talley Quartet, based in Kansas City, recreates that same excitement and vervefor concert audiences of today.
Talley is influenced strongly by such leg-ends as Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter, and has put together a quartet of musiciansalso studied in the ways of the masters.
Learning from jazz history, this group expands theold parameters. The quar-tet breathes new life intostandards and originalswith colorful har-monies and strongrhythms, creating itsown voice — a hall-mark of great acoustic jazz.
And that is the “hook” of this group. TheDoug Talley Quartet, with its straight-ahead, post-bop sound, is building its owntradition of Kansas City jazz, bringingAmerica’s classical music into the 21stCentury.
