Jean Calomeni: 24 March - 12 May
A lifelong artist, Jean Calomeni studied at Trinity University
in San Antonio under well-known water-
colorists from Texas, including Clay McGaughy, Nick Jaros, Ivan
McDougal and Finis Collins. Her art
evolved quickly from traditional and realistic to a uniquely
expressionist style, employing the human
gure and animals to tell stories.
Much of her working career has been spent as a graphic designer
and illustrator. Since moving to
Idaho in 2005 she has been creating paintings that draw on her
observations of society and individuals
around her. These engage the viewer, and convey shared and
familiar experience of ordinary life,relationships, independence
and empowerment.
Through my watercolors, I explore the vast realm of human
relationships and themes that are familiar
to us all. Sometimes a phrase will pop into my head, or Ill
become enraged, outraged or passionate
about a particular social issue, and then images will come to
mind that describe how I feel almost
perfectly. Ive always been an enthusiast of the literary
metaphor, and through my painting, I work at
creating visual metaphors for the issues and opinions I want to
express. Ultimately, I let the images
and scenes I create speak to the viewerleaving interpretation
comfortably in their hands. I continue
to explore the incredible diversity and unpredictability of
watercolor on different painting surfaces. Its
a joy to be as passionate about watercolor as Ive always
been.

the opening reception in order to allow
press to preview the show. The exhibition reception will be 24
March, 4.30pm - 7pm. We are happy
