Reading Workshop- Unit 1 andWriting Workshop- Unit 1Narrative writingThis week learners were introduced to centers. In our reading station, learners focused on setting reading goals, jotting down words they didn’t know, “real” reading, practicing good fluency, and logging their reading.

In our writing stations, we reviewed, and continued to work on all parts of our writing. We completed a Common/Proper Noun act., worked on our “hook” sentences, “show, not tell” sentences, and were introduced to how to write “dialogue” sentences that bring our narratives to life. Next week we will begin to transform our “sloppy copies” into our 2nd draft and begin the editing and revising process.The week of 11/14, before parent /teacher conferences, we will hold a writing celebration in which learners will present their published narratives. All parents will be invited! More detailed information will be given next week. I also want to give a shout out to all parent volunteers that are able to spend their days in other ways, but choose to be in ELA! We so appreciate you being with us. :)

Religion-Prayer Partner Mass is always a special time. Learners enjoyed celebrating with their big buddies. We had a guest priest, Fr. Horan, and he encouraged us to look anywhere and you will find God! We had a busy week, and were unable to complete and adequately prepare for the chapter 3 test. We will have the test on Thursday, October 27th. Thanks for your understanding.

Social Studies-We have been learning all about how the government works and how we are blessed to live in a free country! All learners are well aware of the upcoming election. Hilarious to hear who they would vote for and why, if only old enough :) We will be concluding Unit 3 next week and will have a quiz on Lessons 3-5 on Friday. Next up: Unit 2 The Land Around Us.
