Project Christmas!!!
Attention 4-H Members! Our next parish-wide community service event will be "Project Christmas. "
Throughout the entire month of November, we are asking 4-Hers to col-lect new toys for our annual toy drive. Toys should be new, un-wrapped, and target youth ages 9 and older. Gift cards (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) in $10, $20, $30 amounts are always welcome!
These items will be distributed to needy youth in the area. All items are needed no later than November 21.
4-H Colors
The 4-H colors are green
and white.
Green is emblematic of
springtime, life, and youth.
White symbolizes high
ideals.
Thanksgiving Food Bank Support!!!
During the months of November and December, Jefferson Parish 4-H members will be giving food items to our local food bank. We are collecting non-perishable food items in boxes, bags, and pouches (examples include rice, pasta, fruit cups, juice, dinner mixes). Due to transportation and storage, we will only be able to accept food items which are in boxes, bags, and pouch-es—no canned goods can be accepted at this time! Thanks for helping those less fortunate in our community!

This month, the Patrick Tay-lor 4-H leaders are excited about the leader training camp. Our food drive will end on October 24. Two girls and two boys from our 7th grade class will be chosen to go along on the 4-H camping trip. Our members are gear-ing up for our favorite meeting, the cooking contest at school! [email protected] Jefferson Parish Service Learning Project: Helping the Homeless
What is the definition of homeless?
A homeless individual is “an individual who lacks housing (without regard to whether the
individual is a member of a family), including an individual whose primary residence dur-
ing the night is a supervised public or private facility (e.g., shelters) that provides tempo-
rary living accommodations, and an individual who is a resident in transitional housing.” A
homeless person is an individual without permanent housing who may live on the streets;
stay in a shelter, mission, single room occupancy facilities, abandoned building or vehicle;
or in any other unstable or non-permanent situation. An individual may be considered to
be homeless if that person is “doubled up,” a term that refers to a situation where individ-
uals are unable to maintain their housing situation and are forced to stay with a series of
friends and/or extended family members. In addition, previously homeless individuals
who are to be released from a prison or a hospital may be considered homeless if they do
not have a stable housing situation to which they can return.
There are many homeless individuals living in Jefferson Parish. We will be conducting sev-
eral projects to assist these individuals. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please check
the monthly newsletter for ways you can support this effort!
