    Jehangir Park - Saddar

The history of Jehangir Park goes as far back as 100 years. Jehangir Park was donated to Karachi by Khan

Bahadur Behramji Jehangirji Raj Kot Wale in 1883.

A fountain was constructed in the park in 1893 and was named Behram Bagh. Later in the 1920s, a

cricket ground was laid and a pavilion built in 1931.

There was a time when the park seemed to be a piece of heaven. There used to be lots of greenery, with a profusion of trees including fruits such as mango, jumbolina (Jaman) and sugar apple (Sharifa).Good families visited the park along with their children. Now you will find pick-pockets, gamblers and

    drug addicts

    - Salahuddin Khan,(an employee of City District Government Karachi (CDGK),Interviewed by The News.

    Empress Market

The close proximity of this market allows the park to

act as a support system for itself.

    Al-Shalay Mosque & Trinity Church

The mosque is actually inside the park and thechurch being just across the street, gives an

    opportunity for inter-religion interaction.

The park already has a lot of green in terms of both ground cover and foliage, paths of desire are alsopresent, but part of the main axis is encroached upon by vendors on the Empress market side. On theTrinity Church side, the entrance is clean and maintained and the space in front of the mosque (alsoencroachment) serves as spill out. The periphery though is very ill kept, and forms shady corners foreven shadier activities. however, another positive aspect is the existence of a basketball court.
