I founded Jenman African Safaris in 1993 – with one vehicle and myself as the guide running walking safaris in the lower Zambezi, Mana Pools. Since then Jenman Safaris has expanded into 14 African countries, we have employed many more staff, and today most of our partners know me personally around the globe.

Travel in Africa has always been a passion of mine, and I am lucky to be able to combine my personal interest with my work life. Nevertheless, my team and I never forget that we are arranging your holiday – often a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you have been looking forward to, for years in some cases. This is why our company slogan is; Africa - Your Adventure, Our Expertise.

For almost two decades, we at Jenman Safaris have focused on developing our core business: offering a variety of exciting, high-quality, diverse and interesting safari trips across Southern and East Africa. Over the years, we have developed our own brand of responsible and sustainable tourism, making it a priority for us to maintain and nurture the natural environment that makes Africa such a remarkable destination. We also understand that we don’t live or work in a bubble; that caring for the environment needs to be taught, and that new generations of young Africans must learn to respect and care for the environment as we do.

As a result, Jenman Safaris is now branching out into Educational Day-Trips. These day-trips will be offered to local students up and around Table Mountain National Park, with a focus on environmental care and sustainability. Our day-trips will be guided by our experienced field guides, with food, supplies, equipment and park fees, all funded by us.

The students will be primarily of disadvantaged backgrounds – this means that most of the kids who come on our trips have had little or no previous access to this kind of experience before. They will be chosen from one of our local township schools, and by teachers who deem them eligible (they will begin and end the tour at their school).

By taking a group of students to Table Mountain National Park, our aim is to show them the beautiful variety of flora and fauna of South Africa, and to teach them the importance of maintaining it for years to come. Our guides will discuss the environmental issues that impact the growth of local vegetation, and how we all play a part in taking care of indigenous plant-life, a necessary part of our African heritage.

We at Jenman have become committed to social change in Africa, however small these changes may be. A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH ONE STEP.

At the time this brochure goes to print (April 2012), 181 rhinos have been poached in South Africa. This is more than 1 rhino per day. Appalling news - these tragic numbers put us on track to see some of the greatest losses of the animals in South African history, surpassing last year’s record number, a barbaric 448 poached rhinos. According to acclaimed rhino scientists, if poaching continues at its current rate South Africa’s rhino herd will go into population decline by mid-2012.

Jenman African Safaris decided to take some action and do something different to support the fight against rhino poaching! The brave and wildly attractive staff at Jenman Safaris decided to shed their clothes - and inhibitions - for a new approach to rhino conservation with their first ever semi-nude body art, photographic 2013 calendar...

It’s sexy, it’s tasteful, and it helps to save our rhinos!

The funds are donated to the African Conservation Trust / Project Africa / Save the Rhino for much-needed support to fight against rhino poaching.

LODGE SAFARIS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

Lodge Safari, no participationJenman African Safaris runs scheduled Lodge Safaris. These safaris run with a maximum of 10 or 12 clients, accompanied either by a driver/guide or a driver and a guide. Most of the breakfasts and dinners are provided in the restaurants of the lodges. On some occasions the guide may prepare a traditional dinner around the fire for a real African experience.Lunches consist of lunch packs or are prepared by the guide or guiding team. Lodge Safaris are non-participation safaris.

Lodge Packages, no participationOur Lodge Packages run with a minimum of 2 clients in Southern Africa. Clients won’t be accompanied by a tour guide during the duration of their trip, however will have a local guide and rangers during game drives and other activities such as city tours, etc. Meals are included as per itinerary. The packages do not call for participation.

AccommodationOn our scheduled Lodge Safaris, we make use of typical mid-range African lodge accommodation, situated either in national parks, on the banks of a river, or other places of interest. Lodge Safaris offer accommodation with a mix of lodges, chalets and tented chalets. Most accommodation have a private bathroom with shower/bath and toilet. Local PaymentOn some of our safaris a fixed local payment needs to be paid to the guide before the tour starts. The local payment is part of your tour price. It covers on-the-road expenses, such as national park entrance fees, excursions and activities, as well as the use of local guides. This provides your guide with sufficient funds on the road and ensures that your money goes directly to the African communities.

VehiclesJenman African Safaris makes use of three different types of vehicles in Southern Africa. You will either be travelling in one of our custom-built Toyota Land Cruisers, 4x4 12-seater safari vehicles, or Jenman’s Toyota Quantum Mini Busses. 15 days from Victoria Falls to Victoria Falls: This journey takes us through some of Botswana’s and Zimbabwe’s most magnificent game reserves, starting and ending at the spectacular Victoria Falls – a sight to be behold. Just some of the highlights of this trip include a game drive in Hwange National Park, the Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai River, a 2-day Okavango Delta excursion and the Chobe National Park, as well as the Caprivi Strip.

Day 1: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe On arrival into Victoria Falls Airport, you will be met and transferred to your lodge . The rest of the afternoon may be spent at leisure enjoying one of the many activities available in Victoria Falls. This evening you will meet your guide and the rest of your group for your pre-departure meeting. Overnight: Amadeus Garden Guesthouse or similar

Days 2 – 4: Victoria Falls to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe This morning we depart Victoria Falls and make our way to Hwange National Park where we spend the next three nights. Over the following two days we will have plenty of time to explore this vast wilderness on game drives. Hwange National Park is one of Africa’s finest havens for wildlife and is home to vast herds of elephant, buffalo, and zebra and has a very large concentration of giraffe. It is also home to many predators and endangered species plus varied birdlife. We will also visit the Painted Dog Conservation Centre to witness the work that is done to protect these endangered species. Overnight: Ivory Lodge or similar

Day 5: Hwange National Park to Nata Lodge, BotswanaWe need to get up early, as today is our longest drive of the safari. We leave Hwange National Park and drive through the Matetsi safari area en-route to Botswana. The drive is beautifully scenic, with the chance of spotting game along the way. Overnight: Nata Lodge or similar Days 6 & 7: Nata Bird Sanctuary and Khwai, BotswanaAfter breakfast we head off to the Nata Bird Sanctuary, where we get the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent view over the Sowa pan, which is part of the Greater Magkadigkadi Pans. We then make our way to our camp which is situated in a private concession in the Khwai

area. Khwai is renowned for its large concentration of mammals and it is not unusual to see many different types of wildlife during just one game drive. In our open 4x4 vehicle we will explore the Khwai region on a morning and afternoon game drive on day 7, hopefully spotting a variety of game that frequent this region. After dinner your guide will take you on a night drive, and you will hopefully be able to spot some rare nocturnal animals. Overnight: Khwai Bedouin Camp or similar

Day 8: Moremi Game Reserve, BotswanaWe spend a full day on a game drive in our open 4x4 vehicle into the famous Moremi Game Reserve known as one of the most beautiful and varied game reserves in Africa with an unprecedented concentration of wildlife. Overnight: Khwai Bedouin Camp or similar

Day 10: Okavango Delta, BotswanaWe drive to the Western Delta and onto Etsha 13. From here we head into the largest inland delta in the world, another highlight of Botswana, the Okavango Delta. We will spend the night listening to the sounds of the wilderness. Unlike other deltas, it flows into the Kalahari Desert without reaching the coast, which makes it unique. We will float in Mokoros through the thick vegetation of the Delta discovering a variety of birds and wildlife and will stop at a secluded island to take a 1½ hour guided walk hoping to spot elephants,

waterbuck or other animals living in this water filled paradise. Overnight: Guma Lagoon Camp or similar

Day 11: Mahangu, NamibiaToday we leave the lush verdant wetlands of Botswana and enter Namibia. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Greater Bwabwata National Park, which extends from the Kavango River in the west to the Kwando River in the east and incorporates the Mahangu Game Reserve. Elephant, roan, kudu and buffalo are amongst the animals likely to be seen as well as prolific birdlife. Overnight: Mahangu Lodge or similar

Days 12 & 13: Mahangu National Park to Chobe National Park, BotswanaWe continue our journey through the Caprivi Strip, crossing the border back into Botswana, until we reach our destination, Kasane, the gateway to the Chobe National Park. Start your morning of day 12 with a spectacular game drive in Chobe National Park. You will return to the lodge for lunch, where you can relax until our boat cruise on the Chobe River starts around 3pm. Here we can watch elephants, hippos, crocodiles and a variety of birds, making for excellent up close photo opportunities. Overnight: Chobe Safari Lodge or similar

Days 14 & 15: Victoria Falls, ZimbabweToday we return to Victoria Falls. We visit the Victoria Falls National Park on a guided tour and then have the rest of the day at leisure or to partake in one of the many optional activities. The standard Timbavati Safari Lodge reaches the heart of traditional African adventure and hospitality. This is the African bush and wildlife experience that goes beyond the ordinary. All chalets and rondavels are painted with unique Ndebele art work.

Kapama Buffalo Camp is our recommendation for a mid-range option. The lodge is small and intimate, with a cosy lounge and thatched bar perched on the edge of the riverbank, offering a restful place to sit and listen to the sounds of nature. The shaded pool offers a welcome

respite on a hot afternoon. Dinner is served around an open fire in the traditional outdoor boma, and is presented in heavy African cooking pots.

The up-market Arathusa Safari Lodge offers thatched luxury chalets. Travellers seeking the Big Five safari experience will certainly find it at Arathusa. With exceptional sightings of leopard (usually the most elusive of cats), lions and rhino in the field - a camera’s viewfinder is continuously filled with close contact wildlife interactions.

ADVENTURE SAFARISIN SOUTHERN AFRICA

Camping SafariYour accommodation: On a camping safari you will spend most nights camping. We make use of 3-person dome tents with the following measurements: 2.5 m x 2. 5 m x 1.8 m. We accommodated two clients per tent. You will overnight on designated campsites either within a national park, on the banks of a river, or other places of interest. All campsites have shared ablution facilities with showers, flushing toilets and running water (unless otherwise specified in your detailed itinerary). Jenman African Safaris tries to avoid crowded campsites and brings you to the secluded spots, often supported by the local community. All tents are fitted with mosquito-screed windows and doors. In addition, we provide 5 cm thick sleeping mattresses. Sleeping bags can be hired at an additional fee.

Meals: On our Camping Safaris, the tour guide will be responsible for shopping and cooking all of the meals that are included in your itinerary. He will do all the shopping and meal planning for each group and will try to obtain fresh produce wherever possible.

Half-accommodated SafarisYour accommodation: For clients seeking a little comfort during their adventure safari, we offer half-accommodated safaris. This type of tour offers two different levels of accommodation. Travellers will spend some of the nights camping and others will be spent in lodges, chalets or tented chalets.

Meals: During your half-accommodated safari, you will have breakfasts in the restaurant of the lodges on the nights you stay in fixed accommodation. Some dinners are enjoyed in restaurants while others are prepared by the guide with the help of the group.

ParticipationOn the above mentioned tours a certain amount of participation is required, meaning getting involved in general camp duties – it’s all part of the adventure. This means that travellers will be responsible for performing and helping with certain tasks, such as setting up and breaking down of overnight camps, packing and unpacking the vehicle, assisting with preparation of some meals, and cleaning dishes on a rotational basis. We can also tailor-make your camping safari to a non-participation safari.

Semi-participation – help out with all camp dutiesLimited participation – only setting up of your own tent is required

VehiclesJenman African Safaris makes use of three different types of vehicles in Southern Africa. You will either be travelling in one of our custom-built Toyota Land Cruisers or 4x4 12-seater safari vehicles. During your game drives in the national parks and game reserves of Botswana, you will be travelling in open 4x4 vehicles. On all tours highlighted with our 4x4 icon ( ), you will be guaranteed a 4x4 vehicle.

Jenman African Safaris reserves the right to make use of different vehicles due to unforeseen circumstances or during high season.

Day 1: Arrival to Nosy Be, MadagascarArriving into Nosy Be, you will be welcomed and transferred to Crater Bay, where you will board the yacht before we pull anchor and set off for our first island destination. Overnight: On board the Catamaran

Days 2 - 6: Various islands – tailored to your interests, MadagascarBecause the yacht is charted privately for your group or family, the itinerary is completely flexible and tailored to your interests. There are some islands we can’t resist taking you to, such as Nosy Tanikely, Nosy Komba, Nosy Iranja, and others a little further afield which are also possible on charter – The Mitsio archipelago, the Radama’s archipelago etc. The skipper will discuss the recommended route with you on arrival.

Nosy Tanikely Marine reserve: Nosy Tanikely (Little Land Island) is 10 km west of Nosy Komba, an island south-east of Nosy Be. It is a protected marine reserve and therefore one of the better sites for diving and snorkelling. Expect stunning hard and soft corals, lobsters, eels, reef fish and occasional turtles. Other attractions include beaches, tide pools and a variety of tropical bird species.

Nosy Komba: Nosy Komba (Island of lemurs) is a small volcanic island lying midway between Nosy Be and the mainland of Madagascar. The island offers several walking trails, and an excellent opportunity to observe lemur behavior, from the semi-tame black lemurs (small fee to clients, own cost).

Nosy Iranja: Beautiful Nosy Iranja (Island of Turtles) lies south west of Nosy Be, just beyond the entrance to Russian Bay. Nosy Iranja is made up of two islands. The islands are connected by a 2.5 km long sand bank which can be crossed at low tide to visit either of the islands. The pristine white beaches and clear turquoise water make for an excellent place to relax and enjoy fabulous snorkelling. Our crew can take you on a guided walk through the small village up the hill to the old decommissioned lighthouse – designed by Gustav Eiffel & almost 100 years old.

Russian Bay: Also known as Ambavatory Bay, this is a beautiful and remote place opposite the Nosy Be archipelago. Enjoy the fantastic marine life for snorkelling and fishing and maybe you might spot a whale (in season – from October to December) or a rare Whale shark. Lokobe Nature Reserve. This is the last remaining lowland rainforest on the island and is famed for its black lemur and beautiful nosy be panther chameleon. There is a wonderful beach, and further inland, some fresh water pools in the forest to explore.

Nosy Sakatia: Sakatia Island is a tropical paradise. Situated near Nosy Be off the North Western coast of Madagascar, Sakatia is a true breakaway with no roads or motor vehicles, and only lots of foot paths, with which one can wander at leisure and explore the beauty of the island. It offers typically unspoilt tropical fauna and flora and has a population of only 300.

The Mitsios: Only accessible by boat, the Nosy Mitsio Archipelago lies 70 km north of Nosy Be. La Grand Mitsio is the largest of the

12 islands, and contains small farming villages. Nosy Ankarea is surrounded by coral reefs whilst Les Quatre Freres consists of four imposing silver basalt rocks, covered by hundreds of nesting seabirds. You are likely to encounter Manta rays in these waters. These islands are wild and unpredictable, and are seen as the crème de la crème for dedicated divers who wish to explore the numerous and varied sites.

Kalakajoro (part of the Radama’s): Located 90 km south west of Nosy Be, the Radama Archipelago consists of four islands, of which Kalakajoro is the most northern and the smallest. Here you will find deserted beaches, fish eagles, beautiful coral beds, and spectacular fishing. Just 3km off the beach you will find a continental drop off with abundant Tuna, Barracuda, Sailfish, and Giant Kingfish.

Day 7: Nosy Be, end of your journey, MadagascarDuring breakfast, we make our way back to Nosy Be island, where you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Antananarivo.
