Go to Mr. Rylaarsdam’s website http://mysite.auhsd.us/personal/rylaarsdam_m/

virtualenterprise/default.aspx Find the “VE Personal Finance” link on the

left site of the page Open “Setting Up Personal Finance” and

“Personal Budget Template” underneath the section “Tasks”

Using the instructions on “Setting Up Personal Finance,” you will be creating your monthly budget on the template

Step 1

Step 1: Fill in personal information: Name Job Salary (Gross)

Found underneath your job description (also on Mr. R’s page)

Net salary will be calculated by Excel

Steps 2 and 3

Step 2: Find somewhere to live Sherlock is based in ____________. Find local rental guides Apartments or houses

If with roommates: one person per room! Save proof and update worksheet

Step 3: Find renter’s insurance quotes www.progressive.com Use information on task list to find insurance DO NOT CONTINUE TO BUY! Save proof and update worksheet

Steps 4 and 5

Step 4: Utilities If apartment complex pays some utilities for you,

you DO NOT need to fill in the box that applies If not, go to the “Electricity and Gas” tab to

determine costs Update and save the worksheet

Step 5: Water Bill Using the rate on the task sheet, calculate your

water bill Apartment: $10 per room House $15 per room Update and save the worksheet

Steps 6, 7, and 8

Step 6: Telephone Phone bill: choose the carrier and plan You MUST have cellular and/or landline Save the proof and update the worksheet

Step 7: Cable TV Choose a cable company and plan Save the proof, and update the worksheet

Step 8: Internet Choose an internet provider and plan Save proof and update the worksheet

You may use the same company for all three steps if it provides all plans (ex: Verizon, AT&T)

Steps 9 and 10

Step 9: Car Don’t be overly ambitious, or you WILL run out

of money Used or new car Save the proof and update the worksheet

Step 10: Car Loan Payment Use provided link and car proof to determine

your monthly payment

Steps 11 and 12

Step 11: Car Insurance Choose a insurance company Use the information given on the task sheet

and information found to calculate insurance DO NOT BUY! Press print quote and just save

proof Update worksheet

Step 12: Gasoline Use your budget worksheet tab labeled

“Gasoline” Fill in needed information and calculate Update and save the worksheet

Steps 13 and 14

Step 13: Food Just enter in the cost found on the task sheet

Males: $400 Females: $250

Step 14: Household Supplies Just enter in the cost found on the task sheet

Step 15 and 16

Find charities to donate to This is not optional! Research and determine how much you want

to donate Save the proof and update the worksheet

Find health and life insurance, retirement fund Leave this blank for now; services may be

provided by Sherlock Determine your flexible living expenses

Save your worksheet

Step 17

After you think you have completed the Personal Budget, save the worksheet as indicated on the task sheet
