MESSAGE FROM THE CONSISTORY PRESIDENT OCTOBER 2021

Hello Fellow Church Members & Future Members,

I’m over at the Church to look over some plans for the Church, and figured it would be a good place for me to write my newsletter article. Here we are already almost in October. The month of September just flew by. You know what they say, when you’re busy time sure does fly. We just wrapped up our filling sale at the Palmerton Festival, which went over very well. We started out Tuesday evening at Polk Fire Company with about 20 people cutting up parsley and bread and putting it in plastic bags, all ready for Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning, we started cooking potatoes, celery, and onions, and mixing all the ingredients for the filling. 99 large banquet pans and 30 small banquet pans were baked and ready for the cooler. We had around 20 people helping in the kitchen that day too, with some new faces coming out to help. We loaded up our trailer and hauled it down to the festival along with all the wood for the decking, the equipment and supplies. We had a fantastic weekend of weather, with plenty of volunteers, smiling faces, happy customers, and good music to listen to. We enjoy serving our Happy Bowls as much as the customers enjoy eating them. Monday evening, I went down to start taking things apart and to my surprise all I needed to do was hook up to the trailer and tow it out of there. Our property guys took care of everything else during the day. So once again thank you to everyone who helped out the week before, during, and after the festival. I’m always amazed at how much we can accomplish when we all work together. In a week we have our Apple and Fall Festival on October 2nd, with the Hawks and Dean Hahn playing. We’ll have plenty of food, fun, and fall items, with lots of fellowship too. It’ll be another great event at Jerusalem UCC. The search committee is doing a fantastic job and have applications for 3 candidates. Things are moving along nicely with our search for a new pastor. On the building front, we have submitted our plans to the township zoning officer, who will be reviewing the plans. We should have our building permit soon, then our contractors, F.J. Lesher General Contractor and Bruce George Paving & Excavating can get started. Look for an announcement soon for our official ground breaking ceremony. As always, remember we have many members and friends on our prayer list that need the extra prayers. That’s all for now.

God Bless All,

Rick Anderson Consistory President

“…pray for one another, so that you may be healed.” (James 5:13)

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing…” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17)

As disciples of Jesus, we seek to pray daily.

Below is a list of those who need our prayers.

BAPTISM ANNOUNCEMENTS

Peyton Wyatt Boyer, son of Cody and Rikki Boyer, was baptized into the faith and family of Jesus Christ on September 19, 2021 by Rev. Don Quayle.

Cole Joseph Klemczak, son of Ashley Goodhile and Joseph Klemczak III, was baptized into the faith and family of Jesus Christ on September 26, 2021 by Rev. Don Quayle.

It is always a joy to welcome children into the protection of God's family by the waters of baptism and the Holy Spirit. We welcome these little ones with joy!

Music & Worship

• Sunday 9:00 services continue to be held outdoors in our grove as weather permits, with access via Facebook Live and radio transmission as well. On September 12, the time of service will be changed to 10:00. This is a change from past years, when services were moved from the summer hour of 9:00 to 10:30. Both Consistory and the Music & Worship Committee favored the new 10:00 time.

• Our big screens in the sanctuary have been down following the lightning strike which damaged that and other equipment. The equipment for the camera and screens is in and should be installed soon.

• We welcome to the band a local singer/guitar/sax player – Chuck Scitney - who has joined us in September.

• We are happy to welcome Renee Mowad back with us in September and part of October, and Jen Heilakka in October as well. We appreciate their willingness to add their beautiful voices to our worship!

• Our choir is still on hold for the time being.

JUCC QUILT & CRAFTS GROUP

Our group will be meeting the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month

(October 14th and October 28th, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.). We have a

variety of crafts happening, from quilting to cross stitch to bag

making. We welcome any crafters to join us. Some friends just stop

by to hang out with our lively group - that is good, too! Social

distancing is easy in the church basement, with each person having

at least one large table to work on. Call Shelba if you need further

information: 610/704-3756.

FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP NOT MEETING

The Family Caregiver Support Group is not currently meeting. Please watch for details on our website and Facebook page for

fellowship to ease their caring work.

MONTHLY GRIEF & LOSS SUPPORT GROUP

The Monthly Grief and Loss Support Group at JUCC meets twice a month – on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1:00pm, and the 4th Thursday at 6:30pm. The group is presently being held on a web platform. Directed by professional counselor, Sue Featro, M.E.D., E.D.D., M.S. Counseling, this group is for people experiencing grief due to trauma, loss or death. It is an effort to assist people in the surrounding community to heal and find peace. Please contact the church office for the link, or check for the invitation link on our Facebook page. People are managing to find and make use of this important ministry.
