Los Tres Días / The Triduum 2021Hemos caminado durante el tiempo de cuaresma hacia la pascua. El tiempo de preparación ha terminado. Iniciamos el Triduo, los tres días de la festividad de la Pascua, que inicia en la tarde del Jueves Santo hasta el Domingo de Pascua.

We have journeyed through the season of Lent to these days. Our time of preparation is past. We enter now into the Triduum, the three day festival of Easter, counted sunset to sunset, from Holy Thursday night through Easter Sunday evening. There is unity in these three days. The Paschal Mystery un-folds.

Washing of the Feet / Lavatorio de Los Pies (Mandatum Rite)

All are welcome to come to one of the stations to participate in the ritual of foot washing.

Individuals may come forward, practicing appropriate social distance of at least three feet between each person. Come to the cross bow from the waist, genuflect or raise your arms outstretched as if you are about to embrace the cross. After you receive communion please exit through the side door. You may take your Triduum program booklet with you.

MOTHER OF ALL FEASTS St. Augustine coined the phrase “mother of all feasts.” This night’s vigil has four parts: the service of light, the Liturgy of the Word, the service of baptism and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We are people of the cross and of light, and we are chrismated into the ecclesial com-munity of Christ. The light of Christ and the baptismal bath incorporate us into the paschal mystery. Baptism - like its counterpart, the Eucharist - is not just an action where-by we receive something. Rather, to have been baptized, to have been transformed, to have been changed into a new and glorious person. In the words of St. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153) “It is given to us all alike to catch the glory of the Lord in a mirror with faces unveiled; and so we become transfigured into the same likeness, borrowing glory from that glory, as the spirit of the Lord enables us.”

Daily experience makes us very conscious that water cleanses, purifies, washes away all that stains and sullies. And yet one of the strongest im-ages in the Church’s baptismal tradition is that water also is creative; it brings about new life, causes new beginnings. Just as the Church is the Mother of God’s children, so too is the baptismal water, in the words of St. Cyril of Jerusalem (318-386), “both tomb and Mother.”

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
