NEWS FROM THE ROCK...
Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all things in heaven and on
earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers - all things
have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come
to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God
was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the
blood of his cross. Colossians 1:15-20
We have spent weeks preparing ourselves to celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday. We have examined
the world around us, and the world within us. We have thought about ways that we can reencounter God within
ourselves, in the world, and in others. As we enter April, we will think about our ongoing care for ourselves, God’s
creation and God’s people.
Then we conclude our preparation to take our places among God’s Easter People during Holy Week:
Holy Week Services:
Palm / Passion Sunday, April 14th – Regular Sunday Service Schedule
Pastor Jim Preaching at the 8:00 and 8:45 Services
Children’s Palm Procession and Choir Cantata at 10:45 Service
* Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ parade-like entrance into Jerusalem, and begins Holy Week. The service begins with a joyous demonstration of loyalty to Jesus, with participants waving palm branches and shouting, “Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna!”
* But we cannot understand Jesus’ Resurrection without understanding Jesus’ Passion and Death. So we also observe this Sunday as Passion Sunday, recalling how quickly things changed during the final week of Jesus’ human life.
* The whole service is a movement from joy and victory to defeat and death as we walk with Jesus to the cross.
Holy Thursday, April 18th – 7:00 p.m. Service
* Holy Thursday celebrates Jesus’ last night with his disciples. That night, Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, ate with them, and instituted the Sacrament of Holy Communion with them. At that meal Judas Iscariot left to go and betray Jesus. Later that night Jesus was arrested.
* We will celebrate in an intimate gathering, consecrating The Lord’s Supper in Word and Song. Good Friday, April 19th – 7:00 p.m. Service
* Good Friday recalls the day that Jesus was crucified and died for our sin and the sin of all humankind. Jesus died and was buried, but would overcome death by rising on Easter morning.
* We will recall the ways that we know Jesus: High Priest Loving Friend Embodiment of Love Brother to the Oppressed Royal Son of David Redeemer And Light of the World
Easter Sunday, April 21st – Regular Sunday Service Schedule
We Celebrate Christ’s Resurrection and our life as Easter People
May God Bless us as we complete our Easter journey on the path that leads to life!

Help Wanted: Volunteers as Spiritual Direction clients
Spiritual Direction is concerned with helping a person directly with their relationship with God. The fundamental issue is the relationship with God and addressing the underlying questions “Who is God for me; and who am I for God?” Spiritual direction focuses on what happens when a person listens to God and responds to this God who wants to communicate with you.
A spiritual director is another person who helps someone in listening for God, responding to God, and living out the relationship with God more fully. The image for spiritual direction is 3 chairs: two people are in conversation, listening and responding to God. The 3
rd chair represents The
Holy Spirit, who is the real “director” of one’s relationship with God, and the Spirit is the real guide on someone’s spiritual journey.
And we need your help in this process! Rev. Dr. Janice Japp is preparing in the program “Seeking the Spirit Within,” which is training for spiritual direction. Janice is looking for 2 or 3 persons to volunteer as “clients” for her training in spiritual direction. There is no cost involved to the volunteers. Volunteers will meet with Janice once each month for a year, as she “interns” in the spiritual direction program. Time for meetings is flexible, according to the availability of the “directee.”
If you are interested, or for more information, contact Janice by telephone or text at (402) 650-0586. You may also email her at
This offer is open to adults, women or men welcome.

Palm Sunday Cantata
This year’s Easter Cantata is entitled “In My Place” Remembering Christ’s Sacrifice of Love. The cantata is a dramatic presentation depicting the Passion Story during Holy Week. You will hear choral arrangements of both familiar and new pieces along with a narration and dramatic readings representing the characters in the Passion story. We hope that you can attend the 10:45 service on Palm Sunday, April 14th to witness this touching piece of work by Craig Courtney presented by the Chancel Choir, accompanied by Tatyana Boellstorff with narrations by other members of Rockbrook UMC. The cantata will represent a beginning to our Holy Week experience and is sure to transform you to the proper emotional and mental frame of mind as we remember our journey to the cross, culminating in the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
