START with a Child!Did you know that the main reason children are orphaned is not because of the death of their parents? It’s because of financial poverty. You can change that by sponsoring a child.

We will continue with our child sponsorship event through Sunday, November 18. You can sponsor a child from Haiti for $35 a month, a child from Kenya for $38 a month or a child from Myanmar for $240 a year. The child sponsorship table is located in the Gathering Hall.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IS IMPORTANT

You are never... too late...too old...too young...can never give too much...give too little... to participate in Operation Christmas Child ShoeBoxes. Everything that everyone does is important. It takes it all to assure that precious child receives the box God intended.

This year is bittersweet for me in that for the first OCC season both my parents are in Heaven. They both shared my passion for OCC and contributed their time whether it was opening packages of supplies, securing bundles of

pencils, cutting labels or giving toward shipping charges. Every year Mother would say ”make sure each box has a ball as all

children of any age loves a ball”! While housebound & in lift chairs, they helped, read OCC literature, took delight in looking at photos of ShoeBoxes, kept up with Snyder’s collection total and fervently prayed for the children. At their passing, Mother was 91, Daddy was 98. This year I made a memorial box for Daddy with carpentry tools & one for Mother with a sewing kit and yes.....I made sure that each box included a ball!

Please know that your participation is appreciated and most importantly know that in your obedience to God you are spreading the Gospel around the world.

Pastor’s Perspective

The Singing Christmas Tree is being constructed in the sanctuary as I write these words. As we experience every year at this time, the excitement is palpable and building. Hundreds of members of our church are already investing heavily their time and talents to make this year’s Tree all it can be for Christ and our community. I have no doubt it will be. But truth be told, I find my joy somewhat muted. Please don’t misunderstand. I love what Christmas celebrates and am absolutely ecstatic about my personal relationship with Jesus and all that means. No one will ever be able to take that joy from me. But I still carry a burden in my heart for everyone who doesn’t know Jesus in a personal way. Who doesn’t know how much He really loves them. And that burden seems to be more pronounced both at Christmas and Easter. Even with swelling church attendance at these two times of the year, there are countless others for whom these celebrations hold no special significance. It is so foreign to my personal experience, I still struggle to understand. And I feel genuine sadness for them. I referenced in my sermon last Sunday a recent survey conducted by LifeWay Research on American views of Christian theology. We are as divided religiously as we are politically. Exactly half of Americans say the Bible is 100% accurate in all that it teaches. 47% agree the Bible contains helpful accounts of ancient myths, but isn’t literally true. 57% of Americans say only those who trust in Jesus alone as Savior receive God’s free gift of eternal life. 43% disagree. 58% of Americans believe worshiping alone or with one’s family is a valid replacement for attending church. Less than half see regularly gathering for worship with other believers at church as essential. When you consider that a majority of Americans believe religious belief is more personal opinion than objective truth, we can expect to see such contradictory beliefs as well as beliefs that change over time. Here’s my point. Thousands will witness this year’s Singing Christmas Tree and will be blessed. But many more won’t see it. They aren’t attending any church. They aren’t reading the Bible. They don’t know or believe what it says. The only Jesus they’ll ever see is you and me. The only Bible they’ll ever read is our lives. I am as convicted as ever that I need to live every day of life so others can see Jesus in me. And I need to be intentional about sharing in words why I love Him so much.

See you Sunday! ~ John
