Message from the Padre

When Jesus appeared to his followers after His Resurrection, they some-

times had trouble recognizing him, just like Mary Magdalene who did not recognize

Jesus and mistook him for a gardener. Just like the two followers of Christ during

the Emmaus walk, they too did not recognize him even though they were convers-

ing with Him. Or like the disciples in our Gospel this weekend, they did not recog-

nize Jesus until their nets were full of fish. Like most of us, we fail to recognize

Christ not because our eyes fail to see him, but because our hearts fail to know him.

My dear friends, we have to remember that we benefit from good deeds only if they are done in the name of the Lord.

When we understand the humbling and self-emptying that is involved in accepting God’s grace, then and only then we will truly

recognize the face of the Lord. We also have to remember that recognizing the Lord is reflected not only through our own relation-

ship with Christ, but also through our relationship toward others. Christ’s face is seen not only in our own hearts but also in the

faces of the poor, the oppressed, the sinners, the sick and the needy. When we care and help the poor and the hungry, then and only

then we will truly recognize the face of the Lord.

So as we move on with our lives with the Resurrected Christ, let us be mindful of what Jesus is telling us. Let us pray for

spiritual understanding, so that our faith will bring us together in a reality beyond our understanding. Let us awaken our hearts in

every new day, so that we may see the face of Christ and the Divine Truth by the power of God’s great love… in the victory of the

cross … and in the glory of His Resurrection.

Fr. Joe

Third Sunday of Easter John 21: 1-19

In today’s Gospel Jesus ap-

pears to the apostles after his

resurrection, and even prepares

a meal for them. As we listen to

these holy scriptures about the life of the early

church, let us reflect on the many ways Christ comes

to us and feeds us in our own lives. How does

Christ’s presence sustain us and give us strength to

proclaim the Good News to those around us?
