Jet fuel from ethanol and syngas
Transition to a more sustainable society
Swedish Biofuels is a pioneer in producing synthetic paraffinic jet fuel
and demonstrated the first fossil free fuel in 2008 under contract with
DARPA, US Defense
The jet fuel has been produced, tested and sold under contracts with US Defense, DARPA, US Federal Aviation
Authority, US Volpe Center and Swedish FMV during the period 2009 – 2018.
Fuel produced by SB biojet technology complies with ASTM certification and is approved for use in commercial
aviation under ASTM D7566-18.
Biofuel for airocraft: Demonstration program of SB technology by Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV)
and US AirForce. The quality of the jet fuel meets Jet A-1, Jet-A and JP-8 jet fuel standards.

The goal of Sweden to become the first fossil free state
➢ The framework Fossil Free Sweden by
2050 is initiated by the Swedish
Government
➢ Swedish Aviation sector target is to
have Swedish domestic flights fossil free
by 2030 and all Swedish flights fossil free
by 2045
➢ Swedish Biofuels and Cortus (Publ)
have agreed to cooperate with the goal,
during 2019, of jointly projecting a first
commercial plant for production of jet fuel
from forest residues for the Arlanda airport

Swedish Biofuels contribution to Sustainable
Development Coals
➢ technology that can provide aviation and
ground transportation with a 100% synthetic,
renewable jet fuel, diesel and gasoline – without
any modification to engines, distribution or
infrastructure
➢ solution to one of the main challenges of
climate change – substantially reducing the
emissions of greenhouse gas from aviation and
ground transportation
➢ solution to achieving energy security goals by
providing advanced technology positioned for
commercial deployment. In doing so, it also
contributes to creating jobs in forestry, agriculture,
engineering and manufacturing; and
➢ compliance with RED II sustainability criteria.

Sustainable Development Goals
Climate - SB technology contributes to:
➢ CO2 emissions - long term effect on planet temperature
• sustainable raw material (REDII)
• sustainable process
• fossil free
➢ Contrails, aerosols & black carbon - short term effect
• improved combustion properties
• selectivity and composition of jet fuel hydrocarbons
SDG - SB technology contributes to:
➢ Affordable and Clean Energy*
➢ Responsible Consumption and Production*
➢ Good Health and Well-being

The availability of sustainable and affordable feedstock is a
first priority to accelerate the commissioning of biojet
production
New certification contributes to:
➢ Cost reduction of feedstock
➢ Reduction of blending cost
➢ Availability of sustainable and affordable alcohols for ATJ production
➢ Potential 100% fossil free jet fuel
