JEWELLEX AFRICA 2018 REPORT
The jewellery industry has continued to experience challenges in 2018 due to changing market conditions, the global economic downturn, the rise in the price of gold and a volatile currency. Despite these conditions, Jewellex Africa 2018 proved to be enormously successful.

VISITOR FEEDBACK
The majority of visitors who visited Jewellex stated that their key objectives for visiting was to check out new brands/products/services, to network with the industry as well as to strengthen relationships with current suppliers. Visitors and exhibitors still continue to prefer the use of the Sandton Convention Centre. The venue is more central
to hotels and public transport, especially for the out of towners. It’s also seen as a more central “business hub”
and better suited to hosting a jewellery exhibition.
Another point which was mutually agreed upon, both by visitors and exhibitors is that the exhibition be run from
Saturday to Monday.
Visitors requested that more watch, packaging and gemstone companies should exhibit at Jewellex.

EXHIBITOR FEEDBACK
The majority of exhibitors stated that their key objectives for exhibiting was to create brand awareness,
generate sales leads, strengthen relationships with current customers and to promote their company
and products. Majority of exhibitors were happy with the exhibition dates as well as the exhibition venue.
The biggest concern was that the quantity and quality of visitors this year was very poor and it was noted that
there was a gradual decline in exhibitors exhibiting and therefore the exhibition was smaller than the previous
year.
The two main factors which influenced exhibitors wanting to exhibit next year were that of costs to exhibit as
well the need for the quantity and quality of visitors to improve.

‘Retro Jewellery’ which refers to pieces created in the 1940's and 1950's - a period during which jewellery designers were largely influenced by the changes accompanying World War II.

2019 DATES & VENUE
Dates reserved at present are 5 to 7 October 2019 at the Sandton Convention Centre. Our challenge is that we have to book a minimum of 2500 m² and in 2020, we will have to book a minimum of 3000 m² which may result in us moving to another venue.
We are looking at the feasibility of exhibiting with SARCDA, which takes place at Gallagher Convention Centre in
August. The motivation behind this is that they bring more visitors through the doors and potentially more
exhibitors will exhibit.
JEWELLEX CREDO
Jewellex is a trade exhibition and does not support trade with end users / private individuals. The Jewellery Council of South Africa does not support parallel events that detract from Jewellex.
