Job Duties and Skills acquired:

I worked two years in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory. For those two years, I developed the

skills necessary for processing and staining patient samples for diagnostic assessment and

managed patient information for hospital records. My duties included: culturing and harvesting

patient bone marrow, blood, and tumors; staining patient samples for fluorescence in situ

hybridization; analyzing the samples using fluorescence microscopy; performing Giemsa

banding for karyotyping; karyotyping patient samples; updating and organizing patient files;

attending meetings with directors and co-workers to discuss improving laboratory procedures;

and aiding in maintaining general upkeep of the lab, including cleaning and assessing equipment,

preparing reagents and solutions, and organizing supplies and chemicals.
