Task 1

Creating your Melody
You will need to use the blank bars on the next page to write down your melody.
1. Using your rhythm bank write one rhythm above each bar.
2. Now using the Pentatonic Scale write below your rhythms which note you will use.
3. Now write the rhythms on the stave with your choice of notes.
IDEAS: - Try adding in sequences
- Try making the first 2 bars of lines 1 and 2 the same.
- First create section A
- When creating section B make it very different to section A. Try starting on a different note or adding in different rhythms

Adding chords to your melody
The easiest way to start creating an accompaniment is by adding chords to your melody.
We will be using the following chords:
C Major which contains the notes: C E G
F Major which contains the notes: F A C
G Major which contains the notes: G B D
A minor which contains the notes: A C E

Now look at your own composition. Decide on which chord fits best with each bar and enter the letter name of the chord in the boxes.

Adding a Vamp accompaniment
Now you have decided on which chords to use we can now make your accompaniment sound a more interesting.
A vamp accompaniment consists of a Bass note and chord
Add the bass note to the bass clef of the piano part on beat 1
(Remember the bass note is the main note of the chord eg. In the chord of C, C is the bass note)
Then add the chord on the second beat in the treble clef of the piano part.
