Code Requirements
OMa-1 996, ISTB 4.0:
Reference Values are establishedby the program. Relative andAbsolute Values are provided inISTB Table 5.2.1-1.

Code Requirements
Note 1: ISTB 4.3 Reference Values, item (g)footnote for analysis:
""Vibration measurements of pumps may befoundation, driver, and piping dependent. Therefore, if the initial vibration readings arehigh and have no obvious relationship to thepump, then vibration measurements should betaken at the driver, at the foundation, and onthe piping and analyzed to ensure that thereference vibration measurements arerepresentative of the pump and that themeasured vibration will not prevent the pumpfrom fulfilling its function.
Code RequirementsNote 2:STB 4.6: New Reference Values:
"In cases where pump's test parameters are withineither the alert or required action ranges of TableISTB 5.2. 1-1 Table ISTB 5.2.1-2, Table ISTB 5.2.2-1,or Table ISTB 5.2.3-1, and the pump' continued useat the changed values is supported by an analysis, anew set of reference values may be established. This analysis shall include verification of the pump'soperational readiness. The analysis shall includeboth a pump level and system level evaluation ofoperational readiness, the use of the change inpump performance, and an evaluation of all trendsindicated by the available data. The results of thetest shall be documented in the record of the tests(see Article ISTB 7)."
Pilgrim Analysis
Pump performance Analysis* Analyzed source of vibration* Vibration of concern is attributed to the Booster
Pump and associated harmonics* Displacement due to vibration is lower than
clearance of bearings* Vibration concern is only at rated speed. Pump
operation time post accident is very short.* Adequate monitoring for degradation can be
accomplished with corrections for boosterpump induced vibration
Pilgrim Analysis* Pump performance Analysis (cont.)
* Corrected vibration data indicates HPCI MainPump is below required action rangeN No degradation of HPCI Pump performance willresult from the vibration and the HPCI Systemwill perform its design function
o Vendor Technical Notes were considered inthe analysis
a Vibration trending has shown nodegradation

Vendor Recommendations forReducing Vibration
Verify correct dynamic alignment of allshaft couplings
Completed
Verify acoustic resonant condition frommeasured flow, RPM, water temperature, and vibration frequency
Completed
Wendorw Recoqmmendations forReducing Vibration
The Tech Note identified the followingpotential pump modifications (cont.):
Change the length of the interconnectingpiping
At Pilgrim this means shortening the cross over pipe. Thatis not practicable considering the as-built configuration
* Install an acoustic filter in theinterconnecting pipeNo proven design available. Not practicable consideringsafety related application
Vendor lRUP o endations forReducing Vibration
The Tech Note identified the followingpotential pump modifications (cont.):
Alter the mounted structural natural frequency ofthe injection pump
Not practicable to significantly stiffen the structure
* Change the number of vanes in the booster pumpimpeller
Most realistic of options. Costs approximately $487,000. Doesnot completely resolve issue. Will not improve systemperformance.
Conclusion
Historical pump trend data has been evaluated andconfirms that HPCI pump is operable anddegradation has not been observedProposed program using new Reference Valueswhich take into consideration as-built pumpconfiguration are within the scope of ISTB 4.6 and6.2 and provides an alternative for monitoring pumpperformance
* Proposed program meets the intent of the code andprovides an equivalent level of protection as thecode
* The vendor identified modifications areUnwarranted and are an undue burden
