FACES OF AMERICAN HEROES

ABOUT THE PROJECT/POTENTIAL IT HAS

• As a group we decided to choose the project Faces of American Heroes. This is an ongoing series of drawings of Humboldt County WWII veterans by Kathrin Burleson is to help the Honor Flight Network to bring WWII veterans to Washington D.C. to see the memorial in their honor. She spends her time drawing these veterans and recording their stories of when they served. She raises funds by selling the framed portraits of the veterans and shows them at events such as a concert to show appreciation for WWII veterans. If she is able to sell all of her drawings, she would be able to send more and more veterans from Humboldt County to see the memorial and the respect we have for them as veterans of WWII.

CULTURAL VALUES

• This project is important and we want to show you how it can help out veterans lives knowing they are respected for their service. Cultural Values is defined as "The individual's desirable or preferred way of acting or knowing something that is sustained over time and that governs actions or decisions." This means that as Americans it should be a social norm that we should respect, show support, and honor our veterans for the service they provided for our country. It should represent our culture to show that we support our military veterans and that we are willing to support them.

VIRAL POTENTIAL

• This project has an opportunity to become viral and increase the amount Kathrin can raise along with more support of the Honor Flight Network Program. By using social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, BlogSpot, and others, potentially this could catch on and start to spark interest in people who have served in foreign wars, families of veterans, or people who share the same cultural values and support veterans. By people simply "liking" or "re-tweeting" how they show support for this project, this could get lots of support and let Humboldt County WWII veterans go to Washington D.C. along with more support in other counties and states to ultimately reach the goal of bringing all WWII veterans to see the memorial in Washington D.C.

SOCIAL MEDIA GAINS ATTENTION & GROWTH

• The social media portion is still in its infancy. This is a project being done by an outside source so without much communication with her it is difficult to make chances. Recommendations have been presented to Kathrin to assist her social media efforts such as: liking other veteran or artistic pages, including short descriptions for each drawing uploaded, including the memorial YouTube video to Facebook so it can be shared, and linking this Facebook page to her other artistic blogs. At the moment Kathrin does not have the time to keep up with a Twitter account.

CONCLUSION

• Overall our group chose the Faces of American Heroes project for our group project because we believe a cause like is very important and can inhibit/deserves a viral breakout on the Internet. • We must pay tribute, respect, and honor to our

fellow WWII heroes, and do our best to try and give them a chance to visit a place that’s dedicated to them for their hard work (as they are a part of our history).• We will leave you with some of the portraits by

Kathrin, of WWII veterans, respectfully.
