THE CAPSTONE
EXPERIENCE
A culminating engineering design
experience that enables JMU studentsto address a real-world need through
the application of a design process,
design methods, systems thinking,
and sustainability perspectives.
The experience spans two-years (junior
and senior years) with students working
in teams of four to six. During the
spring students unveil their work
during Symposium Day that
includes a formal design report and
presentation to faculty, peers, industry
representatives, and other external
community members.

For students who meet JMU admissions requirements, but need additional English language support, the International Study
Center (ISC) delivers a customized English language and academic preparation program for undergraduate students to help them
integrate into American university life while enjoying the full Madison experience. Upon successful completion of the International
First Year, students matriculate into their second academic year of undergraduate study. Math and science courses paired with
courses from the liberal arts curriculum give you the foundation necessary to advance to the general engineering degree.
