Dear Secretary Salas,

Here am let~m I have sent before. I think it is a shame people can catch Entiat River salmon and melhead everywhere except the Entiat River.

It's also a shame with all of the fish that are planted for Rocky Reach and Rock Island and Pdest Rapids and Wanapum hydro project mitigat~ no fish get planted in the Entlat River any more.

These effects should have been d ~ inlhe HCP. It looks like you have the chance to make dtsdou the effects under Rodoj Reach no action a ~ . That's the one where the ItCP goes away, so the semet meetings go away, the hatchery committee goes away, fish are planted in the Entiat River again, people can fish in the Ent~ River again and the pow~ is cheaper. September 23, 2005

Dear Iris. Cox: I am mad that I have not been able to fish in the Entlat River for 10 years because of some secret federal experime~. My grandpa and great-grendpa taught me to fish up ttm Entiat River. We would take the ferry to EnUat and pick up supplies at Mr. Risk's store or Mr. C o o ~ s store. We would camp at Cottonwood or some other nice spot end fish the Erdtat and Mad Rivers. The fish end game tnx:k would come up W~l a load of fis/1 and dump them in the dyer. The truck said something about Chelen PUD paying for the fish. Fishing was good.

Now I can only take my gmndsone fishing above Enttat Fats. The fish are small and there are not nearly as many as there used to be. We can't enjoy it like ~ used to.

It saems to me National Madne Fisheries Senfce or Fish and Game should have seid something about this expedmer¢ I just looked at the M'~,olumbla Habitat Conservation Plan again and did not sae anything about the EntJat River be(rig a contn~ dyer. It should have been ~ abeut and the eff~:ts discuased. It was never told to the publlc, ~ had to find out about it on our own.

I am mad you included this underhanded, nefarious scheme in your drMt Upper Columbia Salmon recovery pCan. Just because some g-men thinks up some job secudty scheme doelm~ mean you have to go a#ong w(th i t

Fishing remains closed in Wenatchee, Entlat and Methow rivers

OLYMPIA - An unusually high number of anglers violating closures on the Wenatchee and Entiat rivers and portions of the Methow River has prompted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to remind anglers that fishing for game fish isn't allowed on these waters.

On the Methow alone, enforcement officers contacted 27 anglers recently and informed them they can't fish them, said Capt. Steve Dauma, WDFW regional enforcement captain for North Central Washington. Officers generally come in contact with asmall percentage of anglers, Dauma estimates, so the number of people fishing illegally could be higher.

WDFW personnel have also tried to get the word out by posting signs at river access points and distributing fliers to businesses that sell fishing licenses, said Bob Jateff, WDFW district fish biologist for Okanogan County.

Of the three dvers,.o.nly a stretch o f the Methow from Gold Creek to Weeman Bridge is ever open to fishing for game fish other than whitefish. That season runs from June 1 to Sept. 30. .

Anglers' confusion might stem from a change in the 2005-06 "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet. In past editions, "CLOSED WATERS" was written in the "Special Rules".section for the three rivers. This year, the standing closure wasn't specifically detailed In those waters, possibly leading anglers to assume that the statewide season of June 1 to Oct. 31 is In effect.
