COOPERATIVE TRUST STATUS We currently work in partnership with many local organisations and the quality of collaboration and work amongst the extended school group is well regarded within Oldham. The school became a Foundation School with Trust Status with effect from 1st April 2010. The creation of the Failsworth Learning Partnership Trust allows the partnerships and collaboration to develop further still. It is about working together for the future of Failsworth.

The Learning Partnership aims to:

Maintain the highest aspirations for, and expectations of, the young people of Failsworth;

Raise standards of achievement and attainment for all in the school and its partner schools;

Contribute to improving the economic, social and physical well-being of young people, their facilities and the wider community;

Engage all stakeholders in the community in the strategic direction of the learning and well-being of local children and young people, with a particular anticipated increase in the involvement and understanding of parents and carers in their children’s education;

Further raise the profile of education within the school community as well as student and parental aspirations;

Build on the values and ethos of the co-operative movement to create a school in which all stakeholders play an active part.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL The school operates a Vertical Tutoring House System. We call each form a Family, with groups of different ages to reflect normal life both at home and in the workplace. There are 12 Family Groups to one House. The House System uses the theme of previous Olympic Cities – Athens, Atlanta, Barcelona, Beijing and Sydney. Students who at times require extra support may be given this additional help in our Gateway Centre which is housed in the adjoining Sports Centre. This was introduced with great success during the 2009/10 academic year. Subjects are grouped into 5 Faculties – Maths, Enterprise and Information (Maths and ICT); Culture, Language and Communication (English and MFL); Exploration and Innovation (Science and Technology); Active Citizens (PE and L4L); and Creative World (Expressive Arts and Humanities). On a recent IIP Assessment the assessor found that “the Governors are included in training for Governors and are actively involved in the school plans and reviews of performance”.

STAFF STRUCTURE There are approximately 180 teaching and support staff across the school. We are committed to offering continuing professional development activities for all staff to enable them to develop their career. We also have a number of long established staff who have embraced the internal opportunities - together this has created a friendly, approachable atmosphere.
