1 PASTOR’S DESK While cleaning out office files, I stumbled upon the original documents extending to me the call to be Trinity’s pastor and my acceptance letter. The call was issued on January 11, 1978. Rodney Cline was council president. My acceptance letter is dated January 21, 1978. Here is the body of my acceptance. Dear Family, I am overjoyed that I can call you “family” and come to live with you to share in your witness to Boonsboro. I eagerly accept the Call to become Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and accept the duties of the Pastorate as set forth in the official Call. I look forward to your support as together we grow in our faith in God and find new ways to serve our brothers and sisters. Linda and I will move to Boonsboro on Friday, February 3, 1978. I will begin my duties on Monday, February 6 and conduct the Ash Wednesday service on February 8. May God be with us as we begin our life together. Very truly yours, Joseph I. Donovan Those documents were exchanged nearly thirty-eight and a half years ago. Wow, lots of water has flowed over the dam since then!!! Now as I anticipate my final service as your pastor on Sunday, July 31, I look back over the many years with many mixed feelings. In truth, sometimes you and I experienced difficult times. Parish life is never always smooth. But for the most part, I have only strong positive emotions about those many years. Over those 38 years, I have known joy and fulfillment beyond belief. I have thanked God for you and together we have grown spiritually. I said in my retirement letter that the two most difficult experiences in my life were caring for and letting go of Linda over the year and a half when she battled her recurrence of breast cancer and retiring from Trinity. You are my family. Our many years together intertwined our lives in ways that changed all of us. For this, I give thanks to you and to God. I love you and wish you the very best in the days and months ahead. I pray that you will feel God’s care and guidance as you move through this long and arduous process of determining your future and finding the right pastor to care for you, to lead you, to inspire you and to share your life with you. Please release me and open up yourselves to embrace him or her with the love with which you embraced me for these many years. God bless you and be with you. All my love, Joe

Summer Sunday school & Children's Church

June 5th was the final day of Sunday school for the summer. We will resume classes with our annual Rally Day on Sunday, September 20th (due to Boonesborough Days September 12th & 13th). Our Children's Church program at Trinity is a wonderful ministry to our young people ages

4 through grade 3. Children's Church will be offered the 3rd and 4th Sundays of each month beginning September 20. Volunteers are needed for September, October, November and December. Materials and other assistance are provided to you each month. If you have children who attend this program and have not yet volunteered please consider leading one of the above months (3rd and 4th Sundays) so that we are able to continue this ministry. Pease contact Laura Iager at [email protected] or 301.739.4885. Thanks so much! The Sunday school is in need of volunteers to teach Kindergarten-3rd grade for the upcoming Sunday school year. Please consider teaching the young children in our church the word of God. If you would be willing to teach on a rotational basis please contact Laura Iager at [email protected] or 301.739.4885. The Adult Sunday School Class that meets downstairs has decided to continue through the summer. We will meet on the second and fourth Sundays in June, July, and August, beginning at 9 a.m. each Sunday.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS

ANNOUNCEMENT

For quite a while now, Meritus Medical Center has NOT informed area clergy when one of their parishioners is hospitalized. The only way clergy can know of a patient admission is for the pastor to physically go to the hospital and check the clergy information available at the information desk or for you to call the pastor and inform him. If one of your loved ones is admitted to the hospital and you wish the pastor to visit, please let him know IMMEDIATELY that your loved one is in the hospital. Please call him at the church office at 301-432-2226. He would love to visit any patient in the hospital but needs to know they are there!

Do you want to schedule the social room or other space at Trinity for a church related or family activity or an event for an organization to which you belong? To schedule an event, contact the church office, Steve Jamison or Pastor Donovan. The master event calendar is kept electronically through Google calendar. Before you contact the office, you may view the Google calendar at Trinity's web page. Go to http://www.trinitylutheranboonsboro.org. Click "home" at the top of the page to make certain you are on the home page then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Calendar - See What's Happening at Trinity". This takes you to the Google calendar and you will be able to scroll through the entire year to find available dates. Knowing Trinity's schedule in advance will help you plan your events! We try to keep the calendar up-to-date as best we can!

The Community Free Clinic is in need of new or gently worn shoes: sneakers, heels, boots, sandals, and children’s shoes. These shoes will be used to create “micro businesses” in under developed countries like Haiti, Ghana, and others. If the Clinic collects 300 bags of 25 pairs

of shoes in each bag, the Clinic will receive $3000.00 which will go directly to Patient Health Care. I will be collecting shoes in paper bags July 17th. I will place the paper bags, with a flyer attached. in the Narthex. Thank you very much. Susan Layos, Parish Nurse

FIRST FRIDAY FELLOWSHIP The First Friday Fellowship will take a hiatus over the summer months. Thanks so much to those of you that attend and enjoy these fellowship opportunities! See you in October! ******************
