Why is it taking so long???

Although it seems like an eternity for you, realize that colleges and

universities have THOUSANDS of applicants and it takes time for them

to process all of those applications! It may take several weeks before

your portal is updated with test scores received, transcripts, etc.

Some colleges are sending out acceptance and denial letters, but

many haven’t completed their decision process yet. You’re just going

to have to be patient! Most universities will have everything finalized

and communicated to you by the end of March.

Hi, My Name Is…

It is crucial that you use your legal name on all school, college, and financial aid documents. Your legal name is what is printed on your birth certificate and/or social security card. As you transition from high school to college and the real world, you must use your legal name consistently in everything you do. This is especially important for students who have 2 last names, or go by middle names. If you have not been using your legal name at school or on any applications, you need to get that fixed immediately.

To Do Lists:

Meet with your academic counselor to schedule Extended Summer School if you received a D or F in an

academic class first semester. Colleges do not accept any grades lower than a C.

□ Research college summer programs. Talk with your parents about signing up. Watch deadlines for financial aid support (examples):

□ Cal Poly EPIC (Engineering Possibilities in College) visit: https://epic.calpoly.edu/ Scholarships available.

□ UC Davis Young Scholars Program visit: http://ysp.ucdavis.edu for more info. Financial aid available.

□ Juniors - Time to sign up for the SAT and ACT tests. It’s best to take them for the first time this May or June and then again next fall. This ensures that you have as much knowledge as possible before taking the tests. If you qualify for free/reduced lunch pick up a fee waiver from Mrs. H in the Career Center. Don’t miss the deadlines for signing up!

□ Try to visit college campuses this summer. Campus tours often require registration and are free!

It's never too early to start. It's never too early to get information.

It's never too early to do anything. But it can be too late. Don't wait

for anything or anyone. Do what you desire the most and what will

be the best for your future and career goal because at the end of

the day, it’s all about your own education and succession, not your

friends'.
