• John Calvin was a French Protestant theologian during the Protestant Reformation
John Calvin’s Family Life
• Calvin was raised in a Roman Catholic family
• His father worked in the town’s cathedral under the local bishop
• His father wanted him to become a priest
• His family was religious and noble
John Calvin Education
• When he was 14 Calvin went to Paris to study at the College de Marche to prepare for university study
• The church paid for Calvin’s education at this time

• He was one of the first people to create a protestant religion

By 1528 Calvin moved to Orleans to studycivil law. After this he studied in different placesunder different teachers. He got a humanist education that taught him the importanceof people.

• He was happy and peaceful at this time in his life

• Calvin was emotionally torn when the Council of Geneva asked him to return to Geneva
• He wanted to stay in Strasbourg but felt he had to return to Geneva
• He did so and stayed in Geneva until he died on May 27, 1564
