TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY

Reading I: Isaiah 66: 18-21 The central assertion here is that “foreigners will be at home in God’s house.” Tarshish (southern Spain), “Put and Lud” (Africa), Mosoth, Tubal and Javan (Greek islands) are all included in the list of Gentile lands.

Reading II: Hebrews 12: 5-7, 11-13 Pain and suffering are a part of the human condition. The writer urges us to persevere in light of the triumphant end of the race. Also, he reminds us that discipline brings the “peaceful fruit of righteousness.”

The Gospel: Luke 13: 22-30 En route to Jerusalem, as Luke plots Jesus’ course, He teaches about the kingdom. He tells one group that people from faraway places will share in the banquet at heaven’s table.

School Supply Collection

All seasons must come to an end…and summer is no exception. With that, let us begin to embrace the coming of another school year. While it is an exciting time for most families, some families are struggling to make ends meet and the thought of gathering school supplies for their children just adds to their burden. Camille Lucanie, one of our parishioners, will be collecting supplies to be distributed to children of Monroe Woodbury Schools. Please consider donating some supplies and putting them in the box at the back of the Church. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.

Town of Woodbury Friendly Visitor Program

In our town, many older adults and those who have disabilities, live alone and enjoy their independence. Unfortunately, some are isolated, separated from their families or are in need of a caring friend. Simple gestures can make the difference; they help your neighbor feel connected to the community. Individuals can remain in their homes for as long as possible. Our Friendly Visitor Program is committed to supporting our residents by helping them remain in their homes. We do this by matching local volunteers with the residents that need supports. Please consider becoming a Friendly Visitor Volunteer. For more information and to register, call (845) 928-7578 or email [email protected].

We pray to the Lord

*

For all unborn children: that our love for them may keep them safe

until the joyous day of their birth; We pray to the Lord

* For all children who have died from abortion,

Prayer to John the Baptist O God,

You raised up St. John the Baptist to prepare a perfect person for Christ. We call upon St. John’s intercession

to properly prepare us with a true sense of repentance

to receive Your grace and salvation.

Make us faithful to truth and justice, as You did Your servant, John the Baptist, herald

of Your Son’s birth and death. Lord,

may You increase your life within us. Amen.
