The South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center is the

headquarters of the South Dakota State Historical

Society, as well as home to the South Dakota Historical

Society Foundation, the 501 (c) (3) fundraising arm of

the historical society. The society’s offices of archives,

historic preservation, museum, research and publishing,

and administrative services are located in the Cultural

Heritage Center. The Archaeological Research Center,

another society office, provides archaeological services

from Rapid City.

Your Membership Investment at Work! Your membership donation is invested in the work performed by the staff of the South Dakota State Historical Society. Award-winning books, exhibits and programs continue to draw national and international attention.

The State Historical Society is also home to amazing collections. The archives maintains a publicly accessible link to a treasure trove of information through the South Dakota Digital Archives located at http://history.sd.gov/Archives. Scholars and students can use the research room. Rotating exhibits in the museum tell the story of South Dakota.

The State Historic Preservation Office helps citizens and communities across the state plan their preservation activities. While supporting the work of State Historical Society, the Foundation also operates Heritage Stores in the Capitol and the Cultural Heritage Center.
