Mima Market.Locally Sourced, Responsibly Produced Artisanal Products

The new Mima Market goes beyond a pasta shop - it’s a celebration of the artisan movement of South Florida. Visit this sleek and stocked store downtown to find food, drinks, home goods, and gifts made by talented chefs, artists, and producers in the area. It’s the passion of artist Alexandra Palomino and teacher Raul Parra Orizondo.

At Mima Market, discover tasty popcorn from Boca Raton and big cookies from Little River. Pick up ravioli rolled in MiMo with bread and coffee perfected in Lemon City. Sip fruity tropical juice from Hialeah, or kombucha and wine from Homestead. Savor empanadas baked in Buena Vista! How about tea and jam from Coral Gables, or granola from Hallandale Beach? Treat yourself to soy candles poured in the Design District & dark chocolate from North or South Miami. You can gift soap from Key Biscayne, wooden spoons from Morningside, ceramics from Miami Shores, with a lovely card made in

Hollywood. There are even vegan meals, such as soy-free tempeh, innovated throughout this Magic City.

Why local? Mima Market supports the local economy, as well as aims to limit its carbon footprint. Raw honey is symbolic of their mission: produced locally, a sweet treat (imagine Key Lime, lychee, orange blossom...), and packed with goodness!

Stop by for ready-to-eat lunch and snacks or pick up something on your way home with daily specials: Monday’s free organic coffee with purchase; Tuesday get your third bag of fresh pasta free, or your

Speaking of gifts, Mima is creating an assortment of fanciful baskets for the holidays, chock-full of local goodies! Each one boasts a combination of gourmet and artful products from our community’s responsible, involved, and creative producers.

Mima hosts monthly tastings with breweries based in places like Wynwood and Doral, alongside bites by local chefs. Other regular events include monthly cheese-making classes at Mimmo’s Mozzarella and Saturday morning pop-ups with local artists plus espresso.

Downtown Miami Shores neighbors are a family, creating social gatherings and promotions as part of The Merchants Collective, of which Alexandra and Raul are founding members. With this local familia, the fun is endless!

Performing prominent composers’ works, such as Beethoven, Berlioz, Debussy, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi, the Orchestra also ventures to more modern composers, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Michael Daugherty, Ellen Zwilich,Tom

With an additional ‘nod’ to modern, the orchestra has veered to Martha Graham’s contemporary dance, and Siudy Flamenco Dance Theater.

Enlivened and informative pre-concert chats are presented by music master, Ian Fraser. 20-minutes in length, prior to the performance, he introduces the

South Florida Symphony

Traditional and Adventurous Symphony Orchestra

How can a 20-year old symphony be new? Now in its 21st season, South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO), originating in Key West has been active for 20 years in Broward and Boca Raton. The Symphony is now in its fourth year bringing world class concerts and soloists to the Arsht Center. It returns this year with a familiar story of love, loss and despair, presenting the iconic Gershwin opera, Porgy and Bess. This presentation brings a new approach to the staging which includes the full orchestra as part of the set. A spectacle, using 3-D renderings from the original sets, brings new technology and cutting-edge visuals to this favorite standard.

Extending its Miami entrance, the symphony will also perform at Temple Israel of Greater Miami. Founder and Maestra Sebrina María Alfonso envisages the Symphony enhancing the lives of residents and visitors alike, bringing vibrance to the South Florida cultural landscape through refreshing repertoire mixing old masterworks and newer, edgier material.

MIAMI COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL is proud to announce the hiring of its seventh Head of School, Mariandl Hufford, effective July 1, 2019. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved Hufford’s appointment, replacing the interim Head of School, James Connor.

In October, 6th and 8th graders had the privilege of hearing stories from a few of the 14,000 children who were allowed to leave Cuba as a part of Operation Pedro Pan, without their parents, during the early years of the Castro revolution. Operation Pedro Pan (coined by a Miami Herald reporter and inspired by Peter Pan) was the largest exodus of unaccompanied children in the Western Hemisphere. Students learned about how all private schools were nationalized and that many of the children their age were placed in the military, among other facts and figures. MIAMI SHORES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MSES PTA will host our school’s Fall Dance on November 16 from 6-8pm, tickets $6.00, come dance and have fun with us.

MIAMI SHORES PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SCHOOL (MSPS) At Miami Shores Presbyterian Church Schoool (MSPCS), as part of their Friendship theme, elementary students wrote reviews on their favorite books. Book Review: The One and Only Ivan by Catalina Suniga, Third Grade:

The One and Only Ivan is a book based off a true story. I would recommend this book for 3rd grade up to 6th grade. This book is about a gorilla named Ivan. He was living a good and happy life in the wild until humans came and took him and killed his family. They took them in a van and harmed them. Luckily, Ivan was able to escape. Then, began Ivan’s life. Ivan was adopted by a man named Mack. He lived like a baby human inside Mack’s home. Ivan had to move because he got too huge to Mack’s home. Then they brought him to a tiny domain in the Big Top Mall.

The One and Only Ivan is a book about friendship. Ivan never gives up. Ivan has a best friend named Stella. She died one day. Then a new elephant came to the Big Top Mall. Her name was Ruby. Ivan had to face taking care of this new elephant and try to get out! I don’t want to spoil it for you. Find out what happens in The One and Only Ivan. ST. ROSE OF LIMA CATHOLIC SCHOOL joined thousands of schools across our nation to celebrate International Peace Day. The students gathered early in the morning to sing, recite poetry and

pray together in observance of world peace. Our children were reminded of the importance of kindness with each other, while at home and within our community.

Each year, the first Monday of October is World Day of Bullying Prevention. On this day students, schools, and communities all over the world go BLUE together against bullying. It also kicks off National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. St. Rose of Lima School joined in solidarity to stop bullying and cyberbullying! Students, teachers and staff wore blue colored shirts and stood united against bullies. In honor of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month SRL students also committed to a 28 day kindness challenge. Each student kept a journal recording at least one random act of kindness each day. SRL students know that kind people find joy in the act of giving and helping other people. Kindness is contagious!!

Congratulations to the SRL boys’ varsity volleyball team on their undefeated season! Let’s wish them luck as the head to playoffs in the coming weeks.
