Since 1999, Shepherd’s Hope supporters have donated to our mission through our signature event, the Famous Faces Masquerade Ball. Due to concerns regarding social gathering, we have postponed Famous Faces until October 2021, when we can (hopefully) don festive masks and celebrate in person. This year we will don masks of another type for an evening of volunteer profiles of courage, entertainment, fellowship, and the opportunity to bid on fantastic silent auction items – at a virtual, “Live-Aid” type event aptly named Mask-R-Aid. More than ever, these essential workers risk their and their family’s health in the service to others. Help us honor our healthcare heroes (who sometimes wear capes AND always wear masks).

For all you Famous Faces fans, stay tuned for an event date in the fall of 2021 that will bring us all together in one location and we launch Shepherd’s Hope 25th Anniversary Celebration.

ABOUT MASK-R-AID This year more than ever, Shepherd’s Hope needs to meet the demand of what is trending to be the highest unemployment rate in Central Florida history. As we raise funding to provide our free healthcare services, we also want to celebrate the volunteers and partners that are our healthcare heroes, healers, community leaders, and frontline volunteers. At this blended live/virtual event, you will enjoy entertainment, interactive elements, live and silent auctions, all appropriately socially distanced from the comfort of your location or home. We will honor our 2020 Maryanne Brown Award of Distinction recipients as well as our Dr. Ruth M. McKeefery Volunteer of the Year Award honorees. Of course, masks are required.


Since 1997, Shepherd’s Hope has provided approximately 300,000 free medical services to uninsured and under-insured people in our community. We provide acute care and specialty services to men, women, and children living at or below 200% of poverty. Our healthcare teams are drawn from the 3,000 licensed medical and general volunteers, 5 community hospital partners, 100 diagnostics/surgical providers, and many multi-faith partners. Together these dedicated super citizens provided 19,033 free patient medical services in 2019.

Shepherd’s Hope five Health Centers reside in the communities hardest hit by the pandemic. As Central Florida navigates the economic course correction, our services will be in greater demand. The economy is in recovery, but for many in our community it will take time to regain full employment with health benefits.

Based on our data from the 2008 recession, Shepherd’s Hope is projected to experience a new patient increase between 45-65% (or 2,000-3,200 people) due to regional economic conditions. We also anticipate year over year increases of approximately 20% with the launch of telemedicine – allowing greater access to medical providers.

2020 Maryanne Brown Award of DistinctionNamed in honor of Maryanne Brown, Senior Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Universal, a true friend of Shepherd’s Hope who selflessly gave her time to ensure our success. This award honors Maryanne’s spirit of not talking about getting something done, but just doing it!

Thad & Katie Seymour This power couple is the epitome of just doing it! Friends of Shepherd’s Hope since 2010, they have supported our Mission in every way possible; with their time, treasure and talents. Thad is an Emeritus Member of our Board of Directors and Katie has volunteered for many years as the Chairperson of our Famous Faces Masquerade Ball Committee. In addition to her work with Shepherd’s Hope, Katie is a Community Volunteer with several other local charities, as well as a former education administrator and marketing executive. After coming out of retirement from Tavistock, Thad recently left his position as Interim President at UCF, finally allowing the couple to enjoy life a different pace.

Dr. Ruth M. McKeefery Volunteer of the Year AwardsSince we opened our doors on February 14, 1997, our volunteers have made possible approximately 300,000 patient medical services. They are the healthcare heroes. There are no words to adequately express our gratitude for all they do! Normally, this group would be celebrated at the postponed Call to Hope breakfast, but we could not let the year pass without celebrating our heroes. Our volunteers are the Caring People, Caring for People saving the day!

Nathan Farris | General Volunteer of the Year Nathan brings his incredible skills as a Nurse and a Scribe to our Longwood Health Center. He has shared his medical knowledge and skills with us since 2016 and continues to share his passion with everyone he meets.

Dr. Marlon Ilagan | Specialist of the Year Dr. Ilagan is a Gastroenterologist and has been volunteering his services at our Dr. Diebel, Jr. Memorial Health Center since 2012. His dedication and compassion toward our patients is inspiring.

Kelly Reyes | Primary Care Provider of the YearKelly is one of our marvelous APRN volunteers. She has been with us since 2013 and sees patients out of our West Orange and Tazkiah Centers. She specializes in Emergency Medicine and is a vital member of the team.

Leane Roach |Certified Provider of the YearLeane is our Physical Therapist based out of the West Orange Health Center. She has been with us since 2018 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our organization. Her dedication to providing quality healthcare to uninsured and under-insured men, women and children has helped make Central Florida healthier and happier.

Martha Steward-Shanks | Nurse of the YearMartha is a long-standing volunteer with Shepherd’s Hope, and we are so blessed to have her. She has been a Nurse on our team since 2001 and sees patients out of our Downtown Orlando Health Center.
