Podcasting Using SchoolwiresGail Dickinson
What is Podcasting?
An audio or video file that is made available on the Internet for download and playback using a computer or a mobile device such as an iPod.
Examples of podcasts can be –
• blog entries, audio or video broadcasts, news headlines, just about any type of file can be a podcast.
Most podcasts have RSS capability, which can automate the download process for the user. Podcasts are brought to you through an RSS fee (magazine subscription, postman)
RSS- really simple syndicationThis is a news feed that automatically
distributes podcasting content to the subscribed user.
Podcasts can be audio, video and even in document forms.
User clicks on the orange RSS button to subscribe to a feed
Click on the subscribe link
Click subscribe
•To view feeds•Click on favorites•Then feeds and then the title of the feed you wish to view

Identify name of podcasting network
Indentify yourself
Explain purpose of podcast
Let’s Try It
Create an introduction to your podcast.
Write your introduction down and rehearse your lines.
Sample:
Welcome to Mrs. Smith’s 5th grade podcast. Be sure to tune in weekly for announcements, updates and other class information. And now please welcome – Mrs. D.

9. To save – click file/save as and save sound to desktop

Adding Your Podcast to School Wires
Log in to your school wires account
Go to your current pages
Click on the new page link at the top of the page (a page will open with choices of page types)
Click on podcast
Type in Podcast for the title
Click save (this will open your podcast page – be sure the box is checked active so your podcast will be seen)
Type the title of your podcast and other information
Click on the browse button/select file from your computer/browse/go to your file and click on it/click next/select (note if the file is large it might take a few minutes – be patient)
Click the active button
