Let’s work together to Waterproof San Diego… YMCA partners with San Diego Junior

Lifeguard Foundation to teach swimming

Goal: Waterproof San Diego San Diego Junior Lifeguard

Foundation provides funding for aquatic education to children including swimming lessons, bridge to the beach, junior lifeguard scholarships, and special programs including J Grommets (7-8 yrs old), Ocean Sciences Education (OSE) Program and Open Water Diver Certification.

YMCA SDUSD Joint Use Concept

YMCA Builds core YMCA facility 15-20,000 sq feet on selected high

school or middle school sites containing 2 to 4 acres Operates and manages facility Negotiated priority for school swimming and water polo Develop long range plan to expand facilities (additional 10-

15,000)

San Diego Unified School District Contributes to capital construction funding for swimming pool for

high school water polo and swimming and play fields Allows for Joint Use by YMCA of School Facilities including sports

fields, gymnasium, classrooms, parking lots and performing arts on a site by site basis

Long Term Non Profit Lease In the case for Jackie Robinson YMCA, SDUSD provides some capital for Y to

expand on an existing long term lease
