STORY: J onah 1-2 Have the family sit on the floor, tell the
story of Jonah in your own words1. The Lord wanted Jonah to teach
in a place called Nineveh (ask the family to say
Nineveh) (HOLD UP JONAH) 2. Tell them that Jonah did not want to
obey the Lord and he decided to leave from Joppa
on a boat (HOLD UP THE BOAT, PLACE JONAH IN IT)3. Talk loudly as
you tell them about the storm, move the boat around violently ,
tell them
how the people were scared, they asked Jonah what to do, and
Jonah told them tothrow him off the ship. The men did not want to,
but the storm got worse, (talk louder) and so they threw Jonah
over. (Throw Jonah off)
4. Next (PICK UP THE GREAT FISH) and tell them how Jonah was
swallowed5. (While moving the fish around) talk about how scared
Jonah was now inside the belly of
the fish. ASK: What was Jonah to do? Just die? 6. Tell them how
Jonah prayed to the Lord for 3 days and 3 nights, and the Lord
answered
his prayer and had the fish spit him out on the land, (dump
Jonah out of the fish). ThenJonah obeyed the Lord and went to
Nineveh.
DISCUSS: God answers prayers , sometimes not right away, but he
does
hear and will answer them.o Obedience is doing what you are told
the FIRSTtime you are
asked
GAME: Go Fishing 1. TAKE TURNS FISHING- Tie a string to a pole
(stick, broom handle, etc.) and tie a
magnet on the end. Put a paper clip onto each of the fish.2.
When a Fish is Caught - Read the fish and then SCRIPTURE CHASE who
can
find the answer first???? (all answers in O.T. Jonah & bible
Maps)
TREAT: Gummy Fish - or sugar cookies shaped as fish, trail mix
(fish food)
