Ecuador Report September 2015 We are finally back home! We have been so busy the past few months it would require a massive newsletter to catch you up on everything. We spent almost 3 months in the States seeing supporters, visiting friends and family, attending the CornerStone Missionary Summit and raising funds. We enjoyed our time and feel privileged to have seen many of you. God taught us some truths during the Summit that will serve us well on the field. We returned to Ecuador just in time for our annual “new kids” camp, which is our biggest camp of the year. After 4 days of 18-hours-a-day activity, we were pretty wiped out but God did some great things during the camp. Over 60 youth began a relationship with Jesus! Now we will focus on teaching them more about what that decision means. An interesting thing happened during our time in the U.S. We were invited to Cali- fornia by friends who support us. During our visit, we attended a small church in the Tahoe area when Daniela whispered in my ear that Dan Jessup and his wife were sitting 3 aisles in front of us (Dan is the regional director for Young Life over all of Latin America). I said, “There’s no way that it could possibly be him. He lives in Colorado Springs.” Nevertheless, during the “meet and greet” I saw that it was, in fact, him. We knew Dan from 3 years ago when he and Scott Miedema came down and made the ministry an official part of Young Life International. We chatted for a while after the service and he invited us to the an- nual Young Life summit in Bogota, Columbia, September 13-17. We had no idea what would be included in the summit but we decided that God clearly was orchestrating things, so we said yes. Well, we are just back from our 5 days there and we see why God wanted us to go. We learned so much and truly feel part of the Young Life family here in the “tri colores” region (Ecuador, Columbia, and Venezuela). Our leaders are great folks who love Jesus and love kids and we are blessed to be part of this team. But, there is also much work to be done. We left with a lot of ideas and a resolve to see our team grow in ability and spiritual maturity. Cris, Dan Jessup and Daniela in Bogota Praise Over 60 decisions for Jesus! There is a principle in scripture that the Lord often brings to mind while serving in Young Life; you could call it the principleof foolishness and weakness. It's what Paul spoke of in 1 Cor 1:18-31, and I can't seem to get away from it. I can't tell youhow many times while in the middle of a ridiculous skit or game with the kids, or when considering the enormity of the task athand and the seeming lack of resources available, or simply when passing time in the company of those of whom the worldtakes no notice, that the questions arise in my mind, “What on earth are we doing? Are we really making a difference?” Itseems so ridiculous on the surface, so absurd from a worldly perspective. Yet it's how God works. He uses the weak and fool-ish things and He makes fools of those who think themselves wise or strong or too important. At the end of the day “no onecan boast before Him” and He receives the glory.

We talk often about the “youth” in this ministry. So much so that sometimes I have to remind myself that it's not as if they aresome other class of human beings. One day, if the Lord tarries, each one of these “youth” will be 60 or 70 years old and theywill look back on that ridiculous youth camp or club that they went to at 15 years of age and know it was the moment thatGod changed their lives forever. We are just thankful that the Lord gives us the chance to be a part of it.

We are, as always, immensely grateful to all of you who support us. What you give financially and in prayer makes a way forthese kids to meet Jesus. Thank you so much!
