s a school that opened only four years ago,we have already made a name forourselves. Our community recognized usfor our academic, club, and studentachievements. With an average score of 23.9, ourschool led the state with one of top ACTaverages in the state. We also had foursemifinalists in the PSAT National MeritScholarship. Our school not onlyimpressed with test scores, but more than240 students enrolled in AP classes. From science club making an American
smoke bomb to the robotics team winningtheir matches at their first competition, ourclubs thrived. They not only gave anopportunity for extra curricular learning, butprovided students with a way to stay involvedin the school. As individuals and as a whole school wemade an impact throughout the community. We compelled them to view our school in apositive light and encouraged them to payclose attention to our accomplishments tocome. In only four years, we have beenrecognized as a school to take pride in.

uring a three-day Physics lab, students were asked to thinkoutside of the box by creating a
device that could be dropped off a balconywithout the three eggs inside breaking. "It was interesting to see all the differentdesigns people came up with," ErikRoberts, senior, said. Every group took a different approach.Roberts and Ryan Grove, senior, decided toput their eggs in a shoe box stuffed withpacking peanuts. Only one of their eggsbroke. "Our design was easy to assemble and itworked pretty well. The various calculationswere the hardest part," Roberts said. Payton Keller and Katie Meeks, seniors, tried a different idea. They filled a gallonbag with pillow cotton. Only one of theireggs survived. "Our idea didn't work too well, but the labwas still fun because some designs werereally creative and were fun to watch,"Keller said. The lab taught them about the laws ofinertia as well as how collisions work.Protecting the egg simulated how cardesigners design cars in order to protect thepassengers. "They work the problem-solving processby trying a method and then revising it.Plus they get to smash some eggs," ManniBelfrage, teacher, said. They had to collect and find their ownmaterials to suit their design. The overallchallenge of the lab was to think of a uniqueand effective idea. "At first the lab was pretty tough becauseof the ideas I lacked for making mine,"Roberts said. "But once I figured it out, thelab became fun and definitely worth mytime."Story by Maria Jobeun

ay in and day out our athletes strived to bethe best they could be with their attitudesand determination. The softball team made history bymaking it to state for the first time, whilethe volleyball team was the first ever tomake it to the state championship. The football team made it to the secondround of playoffs for the first time in schoolhistory. As a unit, our fall sports all finishedeighth or higher in state. Four short years ago Elkhorn South did
not have a name. This senior class started asfreshmen at a new school with nothing to liveup to and no records to break. But much changed. In 2014, Elkhorn Southwas a force to be reckoned with in any sportor activity. The student body set the bar high for all ofElkhorn South's future sports andachievements. Throughout their career, this senior classmade their mark on Elkhorn South's historythat we will never forget.
