ADORATION CHAPEL—CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE

The Tabernacle in the Adoration Chapel will close for

the Christmas Holiday on Tuesday, December 24th at

12:00 noon. It will be open again on Thursday,

January 2, 2014 at 5:00 a.m. However, one can still

enter and spend some precious time with Our Lord if desired. We wish

our parish family a most Blessed and Holy Feast Day and celebrations

with Family & Friends.

The church office will be closed on:

Tuesday, December 24th thru Friday,

December 27th, and Tuesday, December 31st

and Wednesday, January 1st.

Fr. Hector and Staff wish you a very

Merry Christmas full of God’s

Blessings.

ADVENT BLESSING FOR THE FOURTH WEEK A parent leads the family in one of these blessings, or the family prays

it in unison.

Father, all-powerful God, your eternal Word took flesh on our earth when the Virgin Mary placed her life at the service of your plan. Lift our minds in watchful hope to hear the voice which announces his glory and open our minds to receive the Spirit who prepares us for his coming. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Welcome to St. Joseph Catholic Church!

4122 S. Bonham St.

Amarillo, TX 79110

Behold, the virgin shall conceive

and bear a son,

and they shall name him

Emmanuel,

which means "God is with us."

When Joseph awoke, he did as the

angel of the Lord had commanded

him and took his wife into his home. - Mt 1:23-24

4th Sunday of Advent

"They shall name him Emmanuel,

which means 'God is with us.'" No

other religion makes such a

radical claim. To be Christian is to

believe that God is truly with us,

in the most personal, intimate way

imaginable; he is one of us! What

a remarkable reality. Through the

Incarnation, God became human and lived among us to love us,

to guide us, to heal us, and to strengthen us. Three days from

now, we will celebrate this extraordinary gift that came to us on

the first Christmas Day. All other Christmas gifts, no matter

how exquisite or precious, pale in comparison to the gift of

Jesus Christ. All the joys and festivities of the season, all the

love and generosity that go into our beautiful holiday traditions,

can be all the more meaningful when we keep this in mind.

Although secular celebrations of Christmas ignore the

significance of the holy day, the church gives us Advent to help

us keep our focus. In these weeks of yuletide preparation, we

stop to remind ourselves what it means to be Christian, in case

we have begun taking it for granted. We reorient our hearts and

minds to recall, once again, the mysterious glory of the

Incarnation. We have been praying throughout this season of

anticipation, "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." The real magic of

Christmas is that we get exactly what we prayed for! Jesus has

come. God has answered our prayers and given us what we truly

desire in the depths of our hearts: himself, Emmanuel, God with

us.

Posadas are an important part of Mexican Christmas celebrations.

The word posada means "inn" or "shelter" in Spanish, and these

celebrations recreate Mary and Joseph's search for a place to stay

in Bethlehem. Participants in the posada make a procession

through the streets to the home of the family hosting the posada.

Outside the door of the home they sing a traditional song in which

they speak the part of Joseph asking for shelter. Posadas are held

on each of the nine nights leading up to Christmas, from December

16 to 24th. The nine nights of posadas leading up to Christmas are

said to represent the nine months that Jesus spent in Mary's womb, or alternatively, to

represent nine days journey to Bethlehem.

Please Pray for our Soldiers Blase Musick, Jacob Tumbleson, Jason Bellar
