Going Green

In alliance with Florida State University's Information Technology department, Non-Profit organizations, and the community at large, we are looking to present a community event aimed at going green called "Greenday". The event will be in the fall and involve Florida State students working with Lutheran Social Services, AITP, The STARS program, and The 50 Large program. Our mission is to accept the communities unwanted computers, recycle them and give them back to those in need of computers. "Greenday" will be a day long event including, food, games, live music, computer education.

Introduction

i. Lutheran Social Services of North Florida’s mission statement is “Develop and administer programs to address unmet social service needs in north Florida.”

ii. Computer Refurbishing and Technical Assistance Program’s mission statement is “Is to allow students to study in the computer lab at Lutheran Social Services of North Florida and get hands on work experiences. They’re two jobs at the Computer Refurbishing and Technical Assistant Program that students have to adhere to, the first one is learn and the second is produce a product that will enrich another’s life. “

iii. The purpose of Green Day is to make the community of Tallahassee aware of LSSNF and CR-TA and what they do to give back to the community. And to make sure they are aware that they can recycle any old electronics to LSSNF and CR-TA which will provide their services and refurbish their electronics to give them back to the community.

Incentives

Tallahassee Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Tallahassee Ford Lincoln Mercury have agreed to donate some of their older equipment.

This equipment will be re-conditioned as best as possible with upgrades like memory, hard drives and up to date software.

Local Business Donations:

We hope we can get enough people to come out and donate computers and or computer parts so that we will be able to give out complete computers to under privileged people.
