“Just as interior and exterior spaces interpenetrate, so do two types of forms: the orthogonal-polygonal, as perceived from the exterior, and the or-ganic, which produces a series of spatial surprises in the interior, a “secret world” with a suggestive, almost labyrinthine character.”Herzog & de Meuron

The concept of the VitraHaus connects two themes that appear repeat-edly in the oeuvre of Herzog & de Meuron: the theme of the archetypal house and the theme of stacked volumes. In Weil am Rhein, it was especially appropriate to return to the idea of the ur-house, since the primary purpose of the five-story building is to present furnishings and objects for the home. The individual “houses,” which have the general characteristics of a display space, are conceived as abstract elements. Stacked into a total of five stories and cantilevered up to fifteen meters in some places, the twelve houses, whose floor slabs intersect the underlying gables, create a three-dimensional assemblage – a pile of houses that, at first glance, has an almost chaotic appearance. The charcoal color of the exterior stucco skin unifies the structure, “earthes” it and connects it to the surrounding landscape.

The game building - Singapore

This is one of my final year project which required us to develop a commercial building in rochor, Singapore. Base on site analysis, the direction of the commercial building program was to address the need of the locals, students and tourist. Introducing different programs in the commercial building require three different nodes to create diversity. This diversity involved materials and also programs which gave differ-ent architecture discourse for different users.

architecture discourse

Herzog & de meuron has explore conceptual ideas for buildings which shows different . The diversity in the design shows how architecture discourse is visually seen. This is an expression of interest in the diverse society which communicated in form.

Inspired by the permeability and spatial qualities of Modernist houses and the great American dream of a customized home, Herzog & de Meuron has replaced the usual extrusion of standardized sky-scraper floor plates with a staggered progression of structural slabs turning slightly off axis by degrees as they ascend, creating constant variety among the apartment floor plans.
