Advances in Neuroimmune Biology
www.iospress.com/journal/advances-in-neuroimmune-biology
ISSN 1878-948X (print) ISSN 1878-9498 (online)
This journal publishes review articles thatdeal with neuroimmune biology, a novel andvery important discipline. The ultimate objective is to understand the integrativeregulation of higher organisms in their entirecomplexity. It has been firmly established already that the nervous, endocrine and immune systems form a regulatory network, a Super-System, which governs allevents from conception until death in higheranimals and in man, including physiologicaland pathophysiological processes. The rapidly accumulating and fragmented information available today is collected, organized and interpreted; the elements, compounds, cells and tissues are fitted into living organisms and ourknowledge of the biology of such higher organisms will beenhanced.

Nutrition and Aging is an international journaldirected to the study of the effects of dietsand dietary components on aging and age-related diseases. It is particularly concernedwith experimental results emanating frombiochemical and pharmacological studies, neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, andnutritional sciences that demonstrate the effects of dietary constituents on the adverse effects of aging. Results emanatingfrom cellular and animal models, as well ashuman studies, will be considered. With regards to the latter, the journal will berigorous in only accepting for publicationwell controlled, randomised human intervention trials that conform broadlywith the current EFSA and US FDA guidelines for nutritionalclinical studies. The journal will publish research articles, short communications, critical reviews and conference summaries, whilst open peer commentaries will be welcomed.

Book SeriesAdvances in Alzheimer’s Disease
Volume 1Handbook of Animal Models inAlzheimer’s DiseaseEditor: Gemma Casadesus2011, 352 pp., hardcoverISBN 978-1-60750-732-1 (print)ISBN 978-1-60750-733-8 (online)Price: US$218 / €150
Due to their complexity and plurality of pathology and symptomatology, thestudy of neurodegenerative diseases relies heavily on animal models. Thesemodels have been developed in manyspecies in the attempt to undercover the complex nature of the disease mecha-nisms involved. The ultimate goal is to test promising thera-pies and to manage, prevent or cure neurodegenerativedisease. But, because most animal models in this area donot reproduce the full phenotypical disease spectrum and theetiology and clinical presentation of neurodegenerative dis-eases differ from one patient to the next, the testing ofthese diseases in animal models often translates poorly toindices of efficacy when applied to the clinical population.
Written by experts in the field with these advances and challenges in mind, this handbook provides an updatedoverview of the animal models being developed and used tostudy complex disease dynamics. The first part of the bookpresents an overview of animal models of various speciesand includes a review of new invertebrate animal models tostudy neurodegeneration. The second section presents theuse of animal models to pinpoint disease mechanisms and the last part of the handbook examines the various therapeutic interventions being used in models of neurodegenerative disease.

Volume 2Handbook of Imaging the Alzheimer BrainEditors: J.W. Ashford, A. Rosen, M. Adamson, P. Bayley, O. Sabri, A. Furst,S.E. Black and M. Weiner2011, 824 pp., hardcoverISBN 978-1-60750-792-5 (print)ISBN 978-1-60750-793-2 (online)Price: US$276 / €190
This handbook was developed to providean overview of the state of the art of brain-imaging approaches that have recently emerged to reveal the criticalcharacteristics of brains of patients withAlzheimer’s disease. It provides numerouschapters that examine this critical phase of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as chapters that discuss diagnosis, early biomarkers, late changes, the role of vascular disease, treatment, progression of the disease, determining the variability of the manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease and estimating the utility of these metrics of disease severity forexamining the effects of treatments.
Each of 10 sections addresses a particular neuroimagingmodality that has been found to be useful in understandingor diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease. Each section features an introduction to the particular technique and its potentialfor informing clinical care or evaluating novel therapies forAlzheimer’s patients. Chapters in each section provide clinicians with specific information as to how the particularneuroimaging technique is or can be useful in a clinical setting, from radiology to primary care and address specificadvances in the various types of neuroimaging. The book includes brief overviews of imaging of Alzheimer’s diseaseand reviews fundamental principles for neuroimaging pathological changes that it causes, with an emphasis on practical and future applications.

The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease (JAD)has completed a scientometric analysis ofthe most exciting new areas to developsince the Alzheimer Centennial. Our goal isto use these results to define a companionto update the highly successful volume ofJAD issued on the Centennial. Instead oflooking back, this collection (tentatively entitled Alzheimer’s Disease: Advances for a New Century)will look forward. This book will be a supplemental issue ofJAD and all articles will appear in PubMed and Science Citation Index (SCI).
