Analytical Cellular Pathology

Impact Factor: 4.169*Calculated based on Cellular Oncology articles published in 2007-2008

ISSN 2210-7177 (print)ISSN 2210-7185 (online)

Analytical Cellular Pathology focuses on the burgeoningapplications of physical techniques to the study of cells, tissues and organs in disease to elucidate pathogenesis andfurther translational research, enhanced diagnosis or prognostication, as well as new and better therapies. Of particular relevance are studies that explore the ways thataberrant biochemical and molecular pathways are transducedinto the physical processes that underlie pathogenesis.

The journal appeals to an audience of pathologists, cell biologists and biochemists, as well as biomedical engineersby focusing on new applications of the rapidly evolving array of technologies. Papers should be based on novel concepts, novel methodologiesor the novel use of existing methodologies that contribute to the study ofpathologic processes, rather than methodological details only. Approaches include tools such as biomedical photonics, surface resonance phenomena andimpedance tomography, as well as new approaches for ultra-high resolution magnetic resonance, multispectral, hyperspectral and vibrational mode analysis and computational biology models. Hypothesis generating and hypothesis-testing observational studies are also welcome.

Breast DiseaseAn International Journal

ISSN 0888-6008 (print)ISSN 1558-1551 (online)

The recent expansion of work in the field of breast cancerinevitably will hasten discoveries that will impact patientoutcome. This research, that spans basic science, clinicalmedicine, epidemiology and public policy, poses difficultiesfor investigators. Not only is it necessary to be facile incomprehending ideas from many disciplines, but also, it isimportant to understand the public implications of these discoveries.

Breast Disease publishes review issues devoted to in-depth analyses of the scientific and public implicationsof recent research on a specific problem in breast cancer.Meeting the information needs of scientists, cliniciansand policy makers, the reviews not only discuss recentdiscoveries, but also reflect on their impact in breastcancer research or clinical management.

Breast Disease now also publishes unsolicitedpeer-reviewed articles. Topics can cover basic cellular and molecular biology, epidemiology, genetics, clinical research, imaging and social and legal issues.

Cancer Biomarkers

Impact Factor: 2.418*

ISSN 1574-0153 (print)ISSN 1875-8592 (online)

Concentrating on molecular biomarkers in cancer research, Cancer Biomarkers publishes original research findings (and reviews solicited by the Editor-in-Chief) on the identification of markers associatedwith the disease processes, whether or not they are anintegral part of the pathological lesion. The diseasemarkers may include, but are not limited to, genomic, epigenomic, proteomics, cellular and morphologic andgenetic factors predisposing to the disease or indicatingthe occurrence of the disease. Manuscripts on thesefactors or biomarkers, either in altered forms, abnormal concentrations or with abnormal tissue distribution leading to disease causation, are accepted.

Disease Markers

Impact Factor: 1.723*

ISSN 0278-0240 (print)ISSN 1875-8630 (online)

Disease Markers publishes original research findings (and reviews solicited by the Editor-in-Chief) on the identificationof markers associated with the disease processes, whetheror not they are an integral part of the pathological lesion. The disease markers may be a genetic host factor predisposing to the disease or the occurrence of cell-surface markers, enzymes or other components, either in altered forms, abnormal concentrations or withabnormal tissue distribution. This journal is designed toprovide a forum for publications dealing with original observations in this developing field on any aspect of thegeneral topic including:

• Identification of new genetic or non-genetic markers(e.g., cell-surface antigens, serum proteins, intra- andextra-cellular enzymes, cytogenic markers and DNA-sequences)

• Population studies of new and existing markers, designed to elucidate information on their normal distribution as well as that in disease states

• Amplification of knowledge about existing markers • Family studies of markers in disease • New techniques for identification and/or isolation of important marker

molecules • Use of monoclonal antibodies for the definition of molecular structures

associated with disease markers • Identification of disease-associated abnormalities in DNA using

recombinant DNA techniques, gene-cloning and DNA restriction enzyme fragment polymorphisms

• Identification of markers identifying malignantly transformed neoplastic cells

The visual pathologic features of tumors have always been the critical parameters in determining tumortype, however, over the last several decades molecularanalysis of tumors has played an increasing role in the diagnostic pathology of tumors. Thus, “molecular pathology”has gradually emerged as a discipline in pathology whichexploits the use of nucleic acid based techniques.

The purpose of this Handbook is to discuss the principlesand the application of selected existing methods of molecular pathology and its use in the detection of early cancer. It describes the molecular changes thatcharacterize preinvasive neoplastic lesions, moleculartargets for early detection, validation of molecular targets and areas of new diagnostic technology that showpromise either for early detection of neoplasias or other medically important uses in cancer prevention and care. The book describes recent advances in proteomics, metabolomics, stem cells research, micro RNA and other posttranslational molecularmodifications; all these will serve the pressing needs in the development of the practice of personalized medicine.

The book is divided into three sections that follow a sequence from basic mechanismsof tumor development, through the molecular and biological abnormalities found incommon types of cancers, to the technologies that are most applicable to detectingthese biologic alterations in precancerous lesions. Each chapter discusses the scientificunderpinnings of the evolution and progression of tumors in order to enable cliniciansand other professionals who manage cancer patients to better understand the diseaseat the molecular and genetic levels.
