Curriculum
SANDRA MELTON PHD, RN, ACNS-BC, CNE
VENTURA COLLEGE SCHOOL OF NURSING & ALLIED HEALTH
The Problem - 2013
▪ Passage of AB1595 (seamless articulation with the CSU) and SB1440 (required CCC to develop transfer model curriculums for articulation with the CSU system)
▪ Transfer model curriculum allows for a total of 76 units for ADN
▪ ACEN initial accreditation – decrease nursing program units –program needs to be no > 6 semesters
▪ CSU Executive Order 1084 (1/10/13) – No prereqs to the prereqs!
▪ Now CSU – max units for BSN = 120
▪ NOW – clinical displacement
What can we do?
Breaking Through the
Barriers
▪ FEAR!
▪ Resistance of science department faculty
▪ Resistance of physical education department faculty
▪ Resistance and caution with nursing faculty
▪ Specialty hours high
▪ Curriculum committee timelines
▪ BRN minor curriculum change
▪ ACEN planned substantive change
