Journey to Antarctica: the White Continent
Aboard National Geographic Explorer | Nov 27 – Dec 10, 2015
Glide around enormous tabular icebergs by Zodiac, walk along beaches covered with thousands of penguins, and kayak amid abundant wildlife. Learn about the Lindblad legacy, dating from 1966, as you travel with Ice Masters, Expedition Leaders and Naturalists who have hundreds of journeys under their parkas. On every expedition, a National Geographic Photographer will give talks and one-on-one photo tips in the field, where it counts. An Undersea Specialist captures rarely seen footage of life beneath the icy surface for viewing in the comfort of the ship’s lounge. Join us on our classic Antarctica itinerary.
DAY 1: U.S./FLY TO BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
Depart the U.S. this evening on an overnight flight to Buenos Aires.
DAY 2: BUENOS AIRES/OVERNIGHT HOTEL
We arrive this morning in cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, set on the Rio de la Plata, and check in to the fine Caesar Park Hotel. In the afternoon, we have a guided overview of the city, seeing its Beaux Arts palaces, grand boulevards, and the famous balcony forever associated with Eva Peron.
DAY 3: BUENOS AIRES/USHUAIA, ARGENTINA/ EMBARK SHIP
The morning's LAN charter flight offers some rare views as we fly over the vividly rugged terrain of Patagonia before landing in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. We'll have lunch during a catamaran cruise of the scenic Beagle Channel before embarking National Geographic Explorer. (B,L,D)

DAY 4: AT SEA
We awake this morning well into our journey across the Drake Passage. Lying between Cape Horn and the Antarctic Peninsula, the Drake holds a unique place in maritime lore. Sometimes misty and gray, other times calm and clear, crossing the legendary Drake Passage is unforgettable - a milestone in any adventurer's personal travel history. (B,L,D)
DAY 5-10: ANTARCTICA
With nearly 24 hours of daylight, we make the most of our six days, keeping a flexible schedule to take advantage of the unexpected — perhaps watching a 40-ton whale surface off the bow. We are out daily. One day, you may take a Zodiac foray amid towering bergs under a bright sun, walk along the shoreline amid a huge penguin colony, hike to a summit for a breathtaking view, or kayak along a cliff-side rookery in search of blue-eyed shags. And the next, you’ll have the thrill of watching the ship crunch through the pack ice, or step ashore to the cries of thousands of Gentoo penguins. You’ll learn from our experts how to identify penguins and get photo tips from a National Geographic photographer while watching those same penguins. Back aboard, our Undersea Specialist may present video from that day’s dive — rare images taken up to 1,000 feet below the surface using our ROV. Our expert staff will craft an expedition where you will learn more, see more and experience more. (B,L,D)
DAY 11-12: AT SEA
As we sail back to Ushuaia, an albatross or two may join the avian escort of seabirds that cross our bow, and our spotters will keep an eye out for marine life. There’ll be plenty of time to enjoy a wellness treatment, log some time in the gym, or catch up on the book you haven’t had a minute to read. Talks from our staff will reflect on all you have seen and learned.(B,L,D)
DAY 13-14: USHUAIA/DISEMBARK/BUENOS AIRES/HOME
After breakfast, we disembark in Ushuaia with some time to explore before proceeding to the airport for our LAN charter flight to Buenos Aires, and an overnight flight to Miami. (Day 13: B,L)

BUENOS AIRES

Before embarking on your expedition take time to explore one of the world’s most intriguing cities. See its famous architecture, explore the most interesting neighborhoods, visit top museums, and take in a tango performance on an extension curated to provide the very best that Buenos Aires has to offer.
IGUAZÚ FALLS
Post-Voyage / 3 Days, From $2,690
Taller than Niagara, Iguazú Falls is also twice as wide with 275 cascades spread in a horseshoe shape over nearly two miles of the Iguazú River. The grandeur of the falls, the tremendous amount of thundering water, the tropical setting and its sheer beauty once led Eleanor Roosevelt to say “poor Niagara.” Situated in Iguazú National Park in northeastern Argentina, this natural sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage site, owing to its beautiful landscapes and subtropical forest, with 450 species of birds, including toucans and parrots, and butterflies, orchids and endangered jaguars.
We view the Falls from several perspectives: via jetboat at river-level, and high above the rushing waters, immersed in mist, on naturalist-led walks along a series of catwalk paths. The monumental Devil’s Throat (Garganta del Diablo) is the culmination of our experience as the air fills with vapor and water thunders 350 feet down into a river canyon—an incredible display of raw power.
EASTER ISLAND
Post-Voyage / 4 Days, Call for rates
Follow your Antarctica expedition with a visit to one of the most mysterious places on earth—Easter Island. Home to silent sentinels of a long lost culture, this tiny island is located 2,300 miles west of Chile in the Pacific Ocean and almost 1,200 miles from its nearest island neighbor. Learn about the ancient Rapa Nui culture that grew up in isolation. Where did these people come from and why did they carve more than 600 giant moai or stone statues? Learn from key archaeologists on this fascinating extension.
