All-Weather UPS Systems All-weather UPS systems made by Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS work stable and safe even under extreme conditions e.g. at temperatures of -30°C up to + 45°C. These UPS systems are partial air-conditioned and fitted with a NiCd battery and a special input filter, so that the efficient function of the UPS is guaranteed at extreme transition temperatures and unstea-dy mains conditions.All-weather UPS systems are used for example in wind energy plants or in regions with extreme environmental conditions as for instance in the Atacama Desert, Chile, for the antenna project ALMA. Also on several offshore platforms UPS systems made by Wärtsilä JOVY-ATLAS protect the power supply of aviation obstruction lightning systems, elevators, tower interior lightning, control systems, communication systems etc. All-weather UPS systems of Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS do not only resist wind and weather, they are also adapted to the roughest conditions due to their high vibration and impact resistance and compact construc-tion. Marine UPS SystemsIn marine sector UPS systems have evolved in recent years as essential for the supply of critical consumers on board. In case of a failure in the power network the function of emergency lights, ra-dio, navigation, automation, communication and loudspeakers must be assured for a specified time. Original function of an UPS System is the bridging of power failures. In ac-tual times of change in energy policy there is one further aspect that should not be underestimated: mains quality. Network interferences in form of fluc-tuations, sudden power peaks, harmonics etc. could harm sensitive appli-ances like computer e.g. or limit their functionality. Here damages are oc-curring which not necessarily refer to the power supply, for instance sudden system crashes during work at PCs. Because of the considerable damage for the companies involved by crashed or functional restrictions of the systems the acquirement of UPS systems is often indispensible. Fields of application are e.g. server systems, EDP-systems (PCs and works stations), production lines and control systems in industry and economy.

During a breakdown or interruption of the net supply the USP system automa-tically switches onto battery opera-tion. During mains failure the con-nected consumer will be supplied without any interruption with battery power, which is converted via inverter. Here the necessary bridging time is an important criterion for the selection of the Ups system and its batteries.

In order to guarantee the bridging of the mains failure time by the UPS system the functionality of the batteries is of important signi-ficance. Therefore the maintenance and the care of the batteries

are as important as the selection of the suitable battery type.

Generally there is a distinction between closed and locked lead batteries: closed batteries are low mainte-nance batteries (wet batteries with liquid electrolyte). Batteries of this type must be filled up with distilled wa-ter from time to time. Locked lead batteries are maintenance free. Difference is made between AGM batteries where the electrolyte is bound in fleece or gel batteries where the electrolyte is bound by addition of silica acid.

According to design and classification we distinct between the following battery types: AGM-Batteries, OPzV-Batteries, OGi-Batteries, GroE-Batteries and OPzS-Batteries.

BatteriesWärtsilä JOVYATLAS offers batteries of all these types. All battery types are subject to a strict quality control. For UPS systems we are using bat-teries with a service life of 5 to 20 years. The specific requirements of the customer determine the selection of batteries.

Closed batteries have a long life cycle of 10-20 years. Locked batteries have a characteristic life of 6-9 or 10-12 years. The real life cycle however is strongly influenced by maintenance and ambient temperature. Batteries should not be exposed to a temperature of more than 25°C permanently as life time consi-derably decreases.

We recommend checking the battery status by our skilled personnel on a regular basis in order to guarantee the optimal function of the batteries. For safe operation it is absolutely necessary to check the battery system of the UPS system. Therefore we have included battery inspections in all our main-tenance contracts for UPS. Our service personnel will also carry our separate battery checks, independent from their field of application.

Our service engineers have corresponding load banks in their vehicles in or-der to test batteries independently from consumer load or work process. The-reby it’s easily possible to determine damaged or weak batteries.

For UPS systems with major performances and long bridging times additional battery cabinets are neces-sary. Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS manufactures different types of battery cabinets which are suitable in industry as well as in shipping, in mining or in data centers. The battery cabinets have a high mechanical toughness and secure a safe contact protection, a very good accessibility of all monitoring appliances and a simple and fast battery ins-tallation (partly drawer systems). In case an air condition is installed at the front or on the roof mounting the batte-ry system can be used even in warm localities, such as heated production facilities for instance, without impact of batteries life time.

UPS TechnologySuitable UPS systems for different applications and requirements - UPS topologies provide different protection classes.

To select the appropriate and suitable UPS system different parameters have to be analyzed, e.g. the mode of appliances to be protected, the used degree of availability and bridging and last but not least the question of the applicability inside of different surroundings.Described below are the three most UPS technologies which are different in their way of function and their requirement regarding the batteries be used.

Offline Standby / VFD = Voltage and Frequency DependentPassive offline standby technology is the most used UPS technology to protect computer against mains failu-res or under- and over-voltages. UPS Systems with this technology are dependent on voltage and frequency. In normal operation the Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS UPS systems supply the consumers directly from mains with filtered power without active conversion. The battery is loaded via the mains. In case of mains failures or interruptions the UPS system delivers a stabilized voltage from the battery. The benefits of this technology include low costs and the ability for office environment because of the low noise level of these systems. For surroundings with a low net quality (e.g. on industrial plants) or often breakdowns UPS systems of this tech-nology are not suitable.

Line Interactivity / VI = Voltage IndependentThe line interactive technology is often used for protection of in-house network and IT-applications against breakdowns as well as against under- and over-voltage. UPS systems of this type monitor the quality of the mains voltage and react on voltage fluctuations. Thereby the output voltage can be adapted by a booster or fader mode. The main advantage of this voltage independent technology is that under- and over voltages can be balanced without straining the batteries.

Double Conversion - Online / VFI = Voltage and Frequency IndependentUPS systems which have to ensure a complete voltage protection without any interruption for critical corpo-rate essential systems to protect them from each possible voltage problems need to be designed in online-double conversion technology. By this technology a permanent protection of the power supply is guaranteed independently from mains quality. The systems work voltage and frequency independent (VFI) and offer pro-tection for mains failures, under- and overvoltages, transients, highly frequent noise, frequency fluctuations and harmonics. By the permanent double conversion (AC/DC, DC/AC) of the output voltage the power supply is completely trouble-free. The double conversion UPS systems are compatible to all types of consumers as no interruptions when changing from normal to battery mode occurs.

Wärtsilä JOVYLINE 625 VA / 1200 VA / 2200 VAThe UPS series Wärtsilä JOVYLINE 625/1200/2200 are specially designed for PC worksta-tions. They offer comprehensive protection for computers in private and office areas. The UPS systems of this series operate according to the “offline principle” (VFD) and present an economical alternative to the Wärtsilä JOVYTEC series, used in superior and complex set-tings. The Wärtsilä JOVYLINE series feature an USB interface, power input plug and output socket for the connected equipment. Via special software status-data and measurements can also be displayed and archived on computers directly connected to the UPS system.

UPS systems of series Wärtsilä JOVYTEC P 700/1000/1500/2000/3000 fulfill by their on-line dual transducer technology the demanding requirements according to the highest pro-tection class VFI-SS-111. The systems of this series is equipped with a diagnosis tes-ting system which gets activated every time the UPS system is started, as well as with a fan control unit, connected to the output of the UPS, and an active PFC (Power Factor Correction) that ensures sinusoidal power consumption. The output voltage is also sinusoidal at all JOVYTEC P systems. Wärtsilä JOVYTEC P series UPS systems constantly supply the connected equipment with a pre-set frequency. The input frequency can be set between 45 and 65 Hz. The easily accessible and user-friendly operation panel allows choosing between four different operating modes: Online Mode, Green Mode, Free Running Mode and Generator Mode. The batteries can be easily replaced from the front side of the device. The entire battery pack can be replaced during active operation with low effort.

UPS SystemsWärtsilä JOVYTEC L 6000 / 8000 / 10000 VABy their on-line double-conversion technology UPS systems of type Wärtsilä JOVYTEC L fulfill the require-ments of the highest protection class VFI-SS-111. The Wärtsilä JOVYTEC L series has a diagnostic test system available which is activated every time the UPS system starts. Moreover that the UPS systems are fitted out with a power related fan control and with an active power factor control (PFC = Power Factor Correction), which provides a sinusoidal voltage input. The output voltage of all JOVYTEC L systems is also sinusoidal. Wärtsilä JOVYTEC L series systems supply the connected load constantly with the specified frequency whereby the input frequency can be adjusted between the range 45-65 Hz. The UPS systems provide a multi-lingual LCD display (five languages are chooseable) with extensive display options for voltage, frequency, battery status and utilization of capacity of the system. The clearly arranged control and display panel allows choosing between four different operating modes.

Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS 1000 / 1500 / 2000 / 3000 VAThe UPS systems of the Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS series is designed in a reliable 19-inch-technology. The UPS systems are equip-ped with a fan control unit, connected to the output of the UPS, and with a so-called PFC (Power Factor Correction) that ensures sinusoidal power consumption. The output voltage is also sinusoidal with all POWERMASTER systems. All POWERMASTER series UPS systems allow the selection between four different operating modes via operating panel: Online Mode, Green Mode, Free Running Mode, and Generator Mode. Operation in Green Mode can increase the efficiency of the series systems up to more than 98%. Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS 1001 sytems have a height of just 44.45 mm (1 HU =height unit) with an output of 1 kVA. It is only available with a standard autonomy time of 4 minutes. UPS system types PMS 1002, PMS 1502, PMS 2002K and PMS 3002K are deep shortened with a total depth of only 425 mm.The Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS 1002 to S 3002 series offer increased autonomy times with supplemental insertable batteries. UPS SystemsThe Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS 6000 is extremely flexible in its application options. With its 90° rotatable display the system can be used as a standing device (tower) or as a 19-inch-rack. The device is also pre-equipped for wall mounting. The display can be removed and placed at a desi-red location apart from the rest of the system via an extension cable. By their online double con-version technology all Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS systems fulfill the VFI-SS-111 protection class requirements. The standard series systems are designed for autonomy times of 9-90 minutes at full load. The UPS systems allow the selection between four different operating modes via operating panel: Online Mode, Green Mode, Free Running Mode, Generator Mode.

Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PMS 6000 6000 VA

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR PLUS 10/15/20 kVAOur Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR PLUS UPS series features single phase systems and three-phase systems up to up to 20 kVA. The UPS systems of this series are equipped with a PFC rectifier using IGTB technology with a very large input voltage range and a power factor cos φ of nearly 1. More over all systems of this type are equipped with a self-diagnosis system and feature a very high dynamic during load changes. They also have a low noi-se level. The rectifier’s harmonic distortion (THDI) is rated at fewer than 4%. This low THDI allows a smaller dimensioning of the emergency power generators than it is possible with standard rectifiers using thyristor tech-nology. All system data can be retrieved from a RS 232 - it can also be optionally transmitted via SNMP adapter, MODBUS adapter, PROFIBUS or other bus system. The battery can be integrated in the UPS encasing for short autonomy times. External design-fitted battery cabinets can be used for longer autonomy times. For redundant operation (half-load operation, n+1 operation) and to increase the power range there is a parallel operation of max. 6 systems possible.

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR DELTA 40 kVA - 150 kVA The Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR DELTA is a real on-line system (double conversion, permanent conversion), therefore it protects against all power faults and mains failures. The systems are manufactured in ac-cordance to the strict quality guidelines as defined by DIN ISO 9001. The low operating costs due to highest effectivity as well as the possibility of remote maintenance should be important arguments when making a decision to purchase. A comfortable monitoring and diagnostic system keeps you up to date with all neces-sary information about the system. For redundant operation (half load parallel or n+1) or for enlargement of the output power the parallel operation of four UPS is possible. A parallel switching later on is possible, thus the UPS can be adapted to grown power demand. The menu-controlled program guides you through all display and operation functions of the system. Measurements, alarms and status messages are displayed on a pleasant text display. The automatic or manual battery test is also initiated via menu. The modular battery system means that we can supply all sizes up to autonomy periods of three hours.

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR PRO 60 kVA - 160 kVASystems out of the Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR PRO series are used in manifold industrial and production settings all over the world. They offer outputs of 60, 80, 100, 125 and 160 kVA. Additional systems can be connec-ted parallel to provide redundant operation (half load parallel operation, n+1 operation) or to increase the output. Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR PRO series systems allow sinusoidal power consumption. Due to the improved power factor at the input of the rectifier, this UPS system consumes up to 30% less input power that stan-dard UPS systems with a the thyristor rectifier. The standard UPS systems are fitted with lead batteries in AGM-technology. For larger back up times we offer solutions with OPzS- or OGi-batteries.

UPS systems of the new series Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR COMPACT cover a power range from 30 - 160 kVA. Through vertical arran-gement of all functional units only a small footprint is required. The three-phase UPS systems of Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR COMPACT - series impress with a very high efficiency. They feature a PFC rectifier using IGBT technology with a very large input voltage range and a power factor cos φ ≈ 1 (JST COMPACT M. The systems of this series can both operate as online systems (double conversion) or in standby mode work, to take advantage of the high efficiency of > 98%. The power factor of nearly 1 allows large cost savings in the sizing of the supplying lines and potential emergency power systems. The three modes EHE Mode, Online Mode and Filter Mode can be selected manually via user-friendly display, or automatically via the integrated, intelligent control of the UPS system. This integrated control optimizes the mode automatically and ensures the best possible operating status of the UPS system.

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR COMPACT S/M 30 - 160 VA

Wärtsilä JOVYCUBE 20 - 640 kVA modular UPS SystemUPS systems of type Wärtsilä JOVYCUBE are based on a 20 kVA UPS module and provide the absolutely flexible solution for power supplies from 20 kVA up to 640 kVA. The three cabinet types JOVYCUBE 60, JOVYCUBE 160 and JOVYCUBE 200 can accommo-date a various number of modules of 20 kV. By combination of several JOVYCUBES cabinet systems power ranges up to 640 kVA can be achieved. The 20 kVA UPS modules impress by their efficient power control, dynamic transitions without switchover times and by the high efficiency of 96%. The UPS system JOVYCUBE can operate both single-phased and three phased. AC input - AC output frequency are independent from each other. A permanent power saving mode ensures optimal efficiency. The JOVYCUBE - modules have an extensive battery management with dynamic load control. Optionally, an external battery monitoring system with single block measurement, temperature, impedance measurement and equalization feature is available for constant cell voltages. Communica-tion / information passes through via USB interfaces for configuration and system information, 6 digital inputs and 7 relay outputs.

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR INDUSTRIE 10 - 150 kVA

The various requirements and applications in industry require special types of UPS systems and make customer-specific adaptations or developments of UPS systems necessary. Our engineers take into account specific needs and requirements and crea-te the appropriate professional, tailor-made solution. Due to the customized construc-tion of industrial UPS systems the customer can determine the installation of addi-tional connectors, DC - power supplies or space for additional components as well as the cabinet‘s type, color and many other features. Of course there are extensive connectivities to electronic data proccessing systems or to a central control sta-tions available - even for those customized ups-systems. All industrial ups systems are based on the innovative technology of our JOVYSTAR series.Up to 40 kVA the UPS systems are fitted out with IGBT-rectifiers (with PFC), higher power ranges are working with 6-pulse thyristor-rectifiers. All UPS systems of the type series Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR INDUSTRIE are easily to maintain and provide a replacement of all major components without much effort.

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR HP systems offer optimal protection for critical devices. They are available with outputs from 200 up to 800 kVA. JOVYSTAR hp systems work with dual transducer technology and they are equip-ped with a static bypass. An external manual bypass is optional available. A significant security feature is provided by the two independent microprocessors controlling the rectifier, inverter and static bypass. Up to six systems can be connected in parallel to provide for redundant operation (half load parallel operation, n+1 operation) or to increase the output – this allows the UPS system to be augmented to answer increasing pow- e r requirements. The use of modern IGBT rectifiers significantly reduces interruptions in the supply network. The innovative IGBT rectifier ensures nearly sinusoidal power consumption. The advantages of this technology are obvious: due to the improved power factor at the input of the rectifier, this UPS system consumes up to 30% less input power than standard UPS sys-tems with a thyristor rectifier. The reduced power at the input of the rectifier in the network supply allows for significant savings in the dimensioning of the distribution, fuses and cable. The excellent power factor of this series and the low proportion of harmonic oscilla-tions ensure lasting protection against an overloading of the on-site supply systems, such as power generators, fuses and switches.

BBPS systems are static, battery-backed power supply systems that are used particularly for the secured power supply within medical facilities. The production of these systems is monitored by our quality assurance system to DIN ISO 9001 and conforms to the current standard for medical locations of group 2, DIN VDE 0100-710. The battery-backed-up power supply systems ensure an optimum security for facilities and equipment in the medical sector, for example in operating rooms, intensive care units or in laboratories.BSPS Systems consist of a rectifier, an inverter, a static bypass and a battery system. This stabilized sinusoidal AC voltage corresponds in its wave form, voltage and frequency continuity to all requirements of modern medi-cal and technical equipment. The used rectifiers ensure a short-time recharge of the batteries within just 6 hours. This charging happens battery-friendly, because the rectifier operates according the IU characteristic DIN 41773. The equipment of the rectifier corresponds to VDE 0558-507. Wärtsilä JOVYMED systems have very high short-circuit power, ensure in the case of a short circuit the fuse blows at <500 ms.BBPS Systems were designed by Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS specifically for each order and were made to the individual requirements.

UPS systems of type Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PNT are available with outputs of 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 VA. The UPS JOVYTEC PNT 1 kVA and 2 kVA are featuring type approvals according to the DNVGL and Bureau Veritas and meeting the Product Standard IEC / EN 60945 and IACS Type Test Specification E10. With their online dual transducer technology the UPS systems of this series fulfill the most demanding requirements, which are found in the VFI-SS-111 protection class. All these UPS Systems are equipped with a diagnosis testing system which gets activated every time the UPS system is started. Further more a fan control unit is connected to the output of the ups and an active PFC (Power Factor Correction) ensures sinusoidal power consumption. Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PNT UPS systems constantly supply the connected equipment with a pre-set frequency. The in-put frequency can be vary between 45 and 65 Hz. The easily accessible and user-friendly operation panel allows the selection between four different operating modes: Online Mode, Green Mode, Free Running Mode and Generator Mode. In Online Mode the connected equipment is continously supplied through the inverter in accordance with VFI-SS-111. The inverter delivers sinusoidal voltage grade 02. The power supply to the equipment is not interrupted even in case of power failure.The batteries of the Wärtsilä JOVYTEC PNT UPS systems can be easily replaced via front side of the device. The entire battery pack can be replaced during active operation with low effort.

Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR OCEAN systems are available within a power range of 5-30 kVA with 3-phased input and 1-phased output or within a power range of 5-200 kVA with 3-phased in- and output. On demand we will be able to realize larger performance ran-ges. The Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR OCEAN systems use the online-principle (conversion technology) according to protection class VFI-SS-111. Herewith the load is continuously supplied from the inverter. This means this means a maximum security for the consumers on board. The microprocessor controlled monitoring of the inverter, rectifier, static switch and the battery ensure high reliability of the UPS system. By automatically storing error it is possible to locate even in retrospect, the exact cause of the error. A built-in RS-232 interface offers the possibility of remote maintenance and error analysis via satellite or mobile phone. UPS Software-Software JUMP The software JUMP (JOVYATLAS UPS Management Program) offers as an individual work station a user friendly and simple surface to our customers in order to control and monitor the Wärtsilä JOVYSTAR UPS systems. A personal computer which is directly connected to the UPS system is necessary for the use of the JUMP software.

Besides monitoring and controlling of the UPS by JUMP a safe, con-trolled and cross platform shutdown of all computer in the network is possible as well (multi server shutdown). The software JUMP guarantees that all users provided by the UPS system will be informed about the net breakdown and that the operation systems can be shut down properly af-ter an adjustable period of time or immediately before end of discharge.

SNMP-Adapter and Relay Cards If the UPS cannot /shall not be connected directly to the PC and if there is a network connection next to the UPS system available, a considera-ble monitoring of the system via SNMP-adapter is possible. The SNMP-protocol (simple network management protocol) is a worldwide valid standard to control hardware which is connected to a network and to get the data and condition of the system submitted. The UPS system receives an own IP-address by the SNMP-protocol when using an SNMP-adapter. With this address the UPS system can be addressed, controlled and operated via a web browser.

Remote Control Systems for various UPS Systems Many of our UPS systems can be equipped with remote indicators/remote control systems.

Rack Rails Some of our UPS types are suitable for installation into a 19“-housing. Adjustable rails serve as professional mounting connection between UPS and cabinet. The use of rack rails simplifies considerably maintenance work.

External BypassThe external bypass switches over the consumer directly and without interruption to the UPS system or to mains without any interruption in power supply. By a simple switching - over the consumer is supplied directly out of the power grid and the UPS can be switched current-free and can be taken out of configura-tion for maintenance, for example.

Sensor ManagerThe sensor manager collects different measure valu-es. In principal it is an interface which connects and records the messages of different sensors. By this way temperature, humidity, output voltage of the UPS or the load condition of the different batteries can be read off the monitor centrally.

Power Distribution UnitVia a power distribution unit– similar to a multiple socket – the power supply is distributed to the consumers. With the intelligent models sin-gle consumer can be switched on and off in a controlled manner.

Temperature Measuring DeviceThe temperature meter serves temperature compensation and optimization of the charging voltage of the batteries.
