APRIL 1: DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR JRBA BLAND MISSION TRIP

JRBA 2019 Bland Mission TripMay 19 – 25, 2019

JRBA is looking for 12 to 15 adult volunteers to go to Bland Ministry Center again this year. This is a mission trip that is DO-ABLE for those who don’t wish to go long distances, who do not have professional skills, or cannot make a large financial commitment. To go to Bland and bless others, you need to have a compassionate heart, be willing to work hard, and be flexible day-to-day. You may be sorting, folding, and hanging clothes, cleaning, restocking shelves, packaging groceries for distribution, doing yardwork, or any number of jobs around the Ministry Center. If we have folks to go with carpentry skills, there may be construction jobs to help with…it all depends on WHO God is calling to go this year. Pray about this opportunity to serve others and to serve God! If you have questions or want to sign up, let Phyllis or Gwynn Tyler know by April 1! (Call 434-983-7385 or 434-969-4378.)

April 19GOOD FRIDAY

Jesus was forced to carry his cross to Golgotha, walking through crowds that mocked him, spit on him, and hurled stones at him. He was then nailed to a cross between two criminals. Hanging on the cross, Jesus was mocked by the people he sought to save. He experienced abandonment by his father in heaven. Jesus carried the sins of the world on his shoulders. Then around 3pm, Jesus died. And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. Matthew 27:50–51 (NIV) When Jesus died, that veil was torn in two. The divide separating God from humanity was torn. Consequently, anyone can approach God in prayer

without the assistance of a pastor or priest. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, we have been forgiven and granted access into God’s life-giving presence. Indeed, it was a GOOD day!

April 21EASTER SUNDAY

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

Mt. Zion’s children sponsored a muffin breakfast on Sunday, March 31, with donatioins going to the Annie Armstrong offering.

Mulberry Grove focused on the Annie Armstrong offering during March. Members are bringing in donations for the Bland Mission Trip in May. Individuals continue to volunteer at the bi-monthly food distribution at the Crystal Cathedral, and the outreach ministry is ongoing.

Sharon’s current efforts are focused on collecting items for JRBA’s Bland Mission Trip and monetary contribtuions for Rise Against Hunger. Rose of Sharon WMU continues providing meals and visits to the sick and homebound.

Chestnut Grove gave $30 to the Buckingham After Prom Committee. Photo is group from Chestnut Grove who organized their Boxes for Hope for Appalachia.

After a pizza lunch on March 17, a group of adults and children at Jones Chapel, packed their Boxes for Hope for Appalachia. Cassie Tomlin gave instructions on how the packing was to be done and they “rolled”!

On Sunday, March 3, the Youth of Jones Chapel sponsored a Baked Potato Bar and all donations will go toward summer mission trips. They also celebrated Pastor Richard’s birthday. From eight to one on Saturday, March 30, Jones Chapel held an Indoor Yard Sale with proceeds also going toward the summer mission trips. Chicken BBQ was sold to add to the total.
