Waiting means trusting in God and God‘s goodness, even when our life may seem full of adversity and troubles, or we get lost in the busyness and routine of everyday living, for as we all know and experience, life is full of ups and downs. Many of us have been praying for peace in the world. But when we watch the news on TV we are flooded with news of violence, terrorism, oppression, and greed for power. The images are often overwhelming. Waiting on God is hard, and requires a great deal of patience. Even if we don‘t see or hear God‘s answer straight away, when we put our faith into action by turning our needs and desires over to God, we are putting our complete trust in God; God who has our best interests at heart, God who loves us abundantly. WAITING

Waiting! How often we wait. We wait in queues at the supermarket, we wait at the traffic

lights, we wait for our weekends to come around, we wait for holidays, and we wait for a child

to be born. Life, at times, may seem full of waiting.

Waiting means living with a hopeful anticipation or expectation of something to happen. When we wait at the supermarket, we are expecting to be served. When we wait for our weekends to come around most of us are expecting to have some days off work, and so on. When we wait for the Lord – when we wait on God - we wait in confident hope that God will hear us and answer us. THURSDAY 10TH NOVEMBER-Evening

FRIDAY 11TH NOVEMBER– Evening Gala Show

Dear Parents and Friends,

This Sunday is Fathers Day – A day when dads get to put their feet up for a change, let someone else do the housework

and cooking and generally be treated like a king!

Hopefully, you‘ve all stopped laughing by now! Seriously, Father‘s Day is a chance to say thanks to all our dads for just

being themselves. It is a chance to show them that we appreciate the efforts they make for their families and especially,

for their children. While the day has undoubtedly turned into a commercial one in many respects, we should still ensure

that we take the opportunity if at all possible to simply spend some quality time with our dads.

Fathers Day is also a day to remember our fathers who have passed away and are now with God. We pray that they are

enjoying the eternal banquet promised by our God.

Happy Fathers Day to all our dads!

ASSISI YEAR 8 ENROLMENTS

Last week I had the pleasure of catching up with Mrs Dora Luxton, Principal of Assisi Catholic College, it was great that

Dora was able to spend some time here at Jubilee and attend our Friday Assembly. We discussed the new agreement

between Jubilee and Assisi in relation to Year 8 enrolments from Jubilee. We have attached a letter from Dora to this

week‘s newsletter showing the Assisi enrolment process. As Assisi has enrolment pressure due to the large number of

siblings going through their school, Jubilee students are no longer guaranteed spots at Assisi.

QUOTE of the WEEK:

―Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.‖

THOUGHT For Your WEEK

Setting An Example

By Catherine Pulsifer, © 2011

Last week was an emotional week for many thousands of Canadians. Jack Layton, Leader of the Official Opposition

Party in Canada, passed away.

To quote Albert Einstein, ―Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.‖ I am not

writing about politics, I am writing about a man who set an example for all of us. Mr. Layton influenced thousands of

Canadians. He was an example of a man who truly had a passion for his work. He did not just speak about the issues;

he actually worked to have issues resolved. He took up causes that he believed in, causes that many others shied away

from – causes such as the homeless, AIDS, violence against women, the environment, to name only a few.

His life was dedicated to helping others who perhaps could not help themselves. He believed in equality for all and that

no one should be left behind. He was a source of inspiration for thousands, and when he passed away on August 22nd,

2011, it shocked a nation. People of all political beliefs, of all ages were saddened. Never in this country‘s history has

there been such an outpouring of emotion. And, the reason for this, is due to a man who supported and worked for the

people; a man who would take up the cause of those less fortunate; a man that influenced and touched the lives of

thousands of Canadians.

I leave you with a quote from a letter that Jack wrote to Canadians, and it is my hope that it inspires you and gives you

some insight into a man that will be missed:

―My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving,

hopeful and optimistic. And we‘ll change the world.‖

Jack Layton

God bless you and best wishes for the week ahead.

Prayers for the Morcombe family, and ourselves

With the publicity surrounding the death of Daniel Morcombe and the ongoing investigation constantly in the news, many of

our children are very aware of their vulnerability and of the potential dangers they may face. Let‘s keep working for a safer

community and keep the Morcombe and our families a focus of our intercessions to God.

Hearing from God

Parents Prayer Gathering allows an opportunity for us to share prayer for the Jubilee community. When and where:

Mondays, from 8.30 am to 9.00am in the meeting room, Jubilee Hall.

Seasons for Growth

We have begun our program with the early years students but have had to move the Year 4-7 group to Tuesday

afternoons as well due to Thursday after school sports training. This means the Year 4-7‘s will begin next week.

A Service of Thanks-giving Prayer for Emergency Workers

On Friday, 16 September at 2 pm we are praying for Emergency Workers and their families at our Assembly. If you are a

Jubilee parent and member of an Emergency Service (Police, Ambulance, and Fire Services, State Emergency Service,

Rural Fire Brigade and Accident and Emergency nurses and the like) let us know so we can include your family and

yourself in our thanks-giving prayer. Email me at [email protected]

We are back in business. We are dry and have hopefully avoided any secondary damage to any books due to moisture in

the air while the Resource Centre was drying out. A special thanks to everyone who read a home reader for a second time

ready to go!

This will incorporate a tour of the school with current students, followed by a morning tea with key staff.

This is a great opportunity to meet students and staff and familiarise yourself with the school.

Please RSVP by 26 August for catering purposes to Helensvale State High School Administration Office on 55738555

G’day from the APA

G’day everyone: Welcome to Week 8.

Last Thursday 25th August, several of our Prep, Yr1, Yr 2 and Yr 3 classes attended and participated in choral

speaking at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. Every class performed very well and Ms Lynes‘

3L and Mrs Clarke‘s Prep L both earned 2nd Place trophies - outstanding ! As well as performing masterfully, our

students also behaved incredibly well, with organisers and another Principal complimenting our school on how

respectful and co-operative our students were on the day. Well done all involved !

Trevor Sketcher and I will be away from school today Tuesday 30th and tomorrow, Wednesday 31st August attending the

BCE Assistant Principals‘ Conference at Surfers Paradise. This is always an excellent event with professional develop-

ment opportunities and interschool sharing of best practice as regular outcomes.

This week we welcome two Jubilee past pupils, Taylor Cross and Sophie Porter, who are undertaking work experience

from Helensvale State High here at Jubilee .

Best wishes to all our Dads, Grand-dads and Father-figures for Fathers‘ day this Sunday !

Special School Focus: With the new sports shirt in mind and a change of season imminent, it is probably a very good

time for us to once again focus on correct school uniform. Our Special School Focus for the next two weeks will be :

―Show pride in Jubilee - always choose

To wear the right uniform, socks and shoes!”

In this focus, we will concentrate on the importance of wearing only correct Jubilee uniform items and wearing them with

pride. As part of this focus, parents are asked to be supportive in this regard and to also make sure that all items of uniform

have been clearly labelled for identification if lost. Our lost property bins are sadly once again overflowing with jumpers,

hats and other items.

Australian Youth Choir Visit:

This Thursday a representative from the Australian Youth Choir will briefly visit each class from Yrs 2-6 to listen to the

children singing. Children identified as having potential will be given a note inviting them, through parents, to become

involved in the AYC.

Parent Parking, Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders: Binstead Way Entrance and Manra Way Roundabout Parking

Unfortunately, there are still some safety and traffic flow concerns relating to parent practices at Drop-off and Pick-up

times:

Please do not stop in or near the Manra Way roundabout or in front of the top entrance gate.

Please do not enter the top entrance to drop off or pick up students.

Please do not park along the bike lane in Binstead Way near the bottom entrance.

Please do not park in the top car park or the car park adjacent to the MPC.

Please use the footpaths and crossings when walking students to or from school.

Have a great Week 8, everyone!

Regards,

Brian Mason.

(Assistant Principal, Administration.)

Afternoon Tea Invitation to all parents of Diverse Learners

At Jubilee we recognise that the journey along the way is not always smooth for students, as well as their parents, as you

aim to support your children, particularly those students that have a diagnosis of an Impairment, a Learning Difficulty or is

visiting an outside professional (e.g. an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist). The journey that you embark on,

when it has been identified that your child will need additional support is one that is unpredictable, filled with emotion and

at times seems like a lengthy, ongoing process.

If you are a parent that would like an opportunity to chat to other parents that may be going through or have gone through

the experience that you have, regarding a child with Diverse Learning Needs, then please come along to our first After-

noon Tea for Parents of Diverse Learners. Support staff at Jubilee, such as Support Teacher: Inclusive Education (Disa

Hill), Guidance Counsellor (David Higgins) and Administration staff look forward to hosting this gathering and continuing it

into the future, offering the support to our community.

Date: Tuesday 13th September

Time: 1.45 pm

Where: Meeting Room in the Multi Purpose Centre (new Hall)

What to Bring: Yourself for a chat, a time to share or listen!

Topic: The Educational Journey

RSVP: Friday 9th Sept email to [email protected] or phone 55028566

Transition to the Australian Curriculum at Jubilee

2011 saw the introduction of a new nationwide Australian Curriculum in 4 Key Learning Areas. At Jubilee, we have begun

the process of implementing this in:

English

Maths

Science

To prepare for and support this, our staff are continually developing their proficiencies with the new curriculum by:

Planning, assessing and reporting using the Australian Curriculum in the above 3 KLA‘s

On-going Professional Development

Reviewing and developing our school Curriculum Framework around the Australian Curriculum.

Reviewing curriculum procedures, eg Assessment Procedures

Reviewing current pedagogies to develop inquiry approach across all KLA‘s.

Continuing to embed Information Communication Learning Technologies in all teaching.

This implementation process will continue through 2012. In 2012, we plan to introduce the KLA of History and others as

they are released by ACARA.

EISTEDDFOD NEWS

Our Class verse speaking choirs certainly did us proud at the Eisteddfod last Thursday! Picking up a couple of trophies

and varied Highly Commended and Very Highly Commended certificates along the way! Congratulations must go to all

concerned, particularly their dedicated class room teachers. The children had so much fun - from the bus ride there to the

whole participation on the 'big stage'. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to work as a team once again and be proud

of their results.

The Speech and Drama section for our individual students begins next Monday the 5th September. We wish all our

participants the best of luck! They have worked hard to be the best they can be for their performances and we know they

are all winners in our eyes. Please check your programmes for performance times and contact Alexandra on her mobile

(0414731378) if unexpected sickness should happen and they are unable to attend.

We will be extending our programme next term to allow more families to join us for the final term of 2011. More details of

this will be sent home this week to those interested. Exciting times!

Term Four also holds more challenges for our students with our ASCA presentations towards the end of November! This

was a highlight of the year last year and no doubt will be again.

Keep watching this space for results and exciting things to come!

FATHER’S DAY STALL – WEDNESDAY 31ST AUGUST

We will be holding our Father‘s Day Stall at school tomorrow, Wednesday 31st August. The stall will be located on the lawn area near the Admin Block at the end of Block 1, with classes being called down in turn during the morning to do their purchasing. Every student will have the opportunity to purchase a maximum of 2 items each. Some of the gifts that will be for sale are:

Multi Function Tape Measure; Stress Less Balls; Water Bottles & Thermal Travel Mugs; Led Torches; Mini Keyring Dolphin Torches; Car Visor Memo Pad; plus a selection of other novelty items, prices range from $1.50 to $5.

Please note that all gifts have a limited supply per class allotment so may have sold out prior to your child purchasing a gift. All children are encouraged to purchase what they would like to buy Dad and not necessarily what they have been told to buy. This adds to the children‘s excitement of buying something special ―on their own‖ for Dad.

If there are any leftovers, they will be available for sale on Thursday 1st of September out the front of the office, so Mums and Dads if you need anything for Grandpa this is when you‘ll be able to purchase from the stall. Also the Thursday gives those children who want to purchase more than the maximum of 2 gifts an opportunity to do so. On the day please send with your child a BROWN PAPER BAG with their money and include their name and class; this is so we can return the gifts home safely.

If you are able to help with the stall on the day please call and/or email the P&F .

Many thanks and Happy Father‘s Day to all !!!

With the Fun Day now less than 2 weeks away, the P&F would like to let you know that armbands are currently on sale this week outside the office every morning between 8.15am and 8.45 am and from next Monday (5th) we will be selling them outside the office in afternoons as well. They are also available at assembly on Fridays; in the uniform shop; and at OSHC. The armbands are $20.00 each (and will be on sale on the Fun Day for $25.00). Individual ride tickets will also be available on the Fun Day for $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00. The armbands provide unlimited access to twelve awesome rides.

Also, volunteer rosters have been posted outside the school library, so if anyone is interested in donating an hour (or even ½ an hour) of their time on the day that would be wonderful.

If you have any queries regarding the fun day, please don‘t hesitate to call me on 0411 466503 or email: [email protected].

Cast, please continue to read through your scripts. This is VERY important.

Due to the large number of cast and having 12 scenes, not all students get to run their scene each week. Unfortunately

that is part and parcel of being in a production like this. While we try to do our very best to get though as much as we can

we are limited by time etc. We do need all students to attend each rehearsal. We run songs together, have important

info to share etc. Please understand that we are doing our very best to produce a quality show for our students.

It is vital that you only pick your child up from the front entrance. PLEASE DO NOT pick up children from anywhere else.

Also please only take your own child unless other arrangements have been made from other parents.

If there are any other students who have not paid their $25 one off payment, could they please do so ASAP as we are

beginning to purchase items for the production.

In the meantime, if there are any concerns, please contact me via [email protected]
