1) Relax! There are nearly 4000 colleges or training programs in the United States alone. There is one right for you!
2) Go to Naviance, log in and complete the College Match survey. Add colleges to “Colleges I’m Thinking About”. Military is on the list too!
3) For more help, use other search engines like:

- www.colleges.niche.com4) Visit your top choices! You wouldn’t buy a pair
of jeans without trying them on!
5) Apply to 4-6 colleges. One or two reach schools, two “target” schools and one or two “safety” schools.
What is a safety, target or reach school?
• Safety – accept all students, or your grades and test scores are above their average range.
● Target – your grades and test scores are in the middle of their average range.
• Reach – your grades and test scores are below their average range.

Post-High School Application Process
Please follow the guidelines on the Naviance College Planning Checklist
1. Complete SuperMatch College Search Tool2. Add schools (at least 2- remember fit) to “Colleges I’m Thinking About”3. Add schools into “Colleges I Am Applying To”
After I have my list, then what?
• Community colleges, apprenticeships, and military do not require essays or letters of recommendation
• Universities do often require personal statement/essays – Write them now!!!! – Several readers
• Private universities do require letters of recommendation-- give recommenders 3 week notice
• Know your deadlines!

Letters of Recommendation (mostly for private colleges)
1. Ask your recommenders and counselor in person2. Give 3 weeks’ notice with your completed “Counselor/Teacher Letter of Recommendation Request Form”
3. In Naviance, under the colleges tab, scroll below the list of colleges and locate the Teacher Recommendations section
4. Select your teacher’s name and enter a personal message
5. Click “Update Request” at bottom of screen
Transcripts?
• Complete the college’s application
• In Naviance, go to “Colleges I Am Applying To” and click “I have applied” – this will initiate a transcript request
• Make sure to choose “Match Common App” or choose “Not needed”

Senior Interview/Conference Required to Graduate!!
Purpose: ✓We want to know! What are your post high school plans?
✓What is your grad status? Are you on track to graduate?
✓We will answer questions & make sure you are on the right track!
✓You will indicate what periods are best for you through a survey in Naviance. You will go to your Naviance account, click on “About Me” tab, tasks, and “Senior Year Planning Information for Counselor”. Click on complete a survey. Once we receive your survey through Naviance, we will send you a date and time for the Senior Interview through Google Calendar. PLEASE check your school email for your Senior Interview appointment. This is a REQUIRED part of meeting your HSBP.
