But the Paint-In doesn’t just act as a gallery, and the event is not only about selling art — art lovers have a personal invitation to meet local artists and, whether you’re an expert or brand new to the Victoria art scene, all barriers are broken with the chance to interact and sample the materials they work with. Over 150 artists and an esti- mated 35,000 visitors may seem like a claustrophobic number, but the Paint-In is one of the most quiet, tranquil and easy-going events Victoria sees every year. Mary-ellen readkell, coor- dinator of the Paint-In, assures that aſter getting used to the en- vironment, artists and spectators will be hosting a peaceful “Love- In” of art. “If someone is looking for a teacher, or inspiration, or art for their walls, they’ll find it at the Paint-In” says readkell. Returning this year, Agnes Anananichuk is planning to share her outstanding collage work, and Peggy Brackett will be working with fused glass. Among the many other return- ing artists is Ivan Fraser, who uniquely brings a piece of sculpture to be developed throughout the day by the hands of Moss Street visitors. e outcome always promises a fascinating surprise. Alain Costaz will be running life-drawing classes that will take place in three different locations on Moss Street. Student artists will partake in the project to experiment with different materials. Each year, the TD Art Gallery Paint-In strives to be a greener event. To achieve this goal, bottled water will not be sold, but reusable, foldable, black water bottles will be for sale, complete with the message: “Green is the new black. anks for making art sustainable in Victo- ria.” Along with the Earth-friendly bottles, a thorough system of recycling will be set up. Donations for the bottles and the Paint-In are appreciated, and donation barrels will be easily spotted down the street. All sur- plus funds go to the educational program- ming at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Additionally, the gallery itself is open at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. the day of the Paint-In. To top off the day, visit the food and beverage garden, located in the parking lot, between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. e road will be closed for traffic during these hours and secure bike parking will be provided at the gallery to encourage cycling. 1. Take public transportation, ride your bike or walk — Moss Street will be closed to vehicle traffi c from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bike parking is available at the Art Gallery courtesy of Chain, Chain, Chain.

2. Explore and enjoy — Visit 150 artists and use the Family Artists Palette to try out diff erent art mediums at more than 50 artist stations. Enter your palette for a chance to win great prizes.

3. Take advantage of the gallery’s Open House — Th e gallery will be open by donation from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., off ering a terrifi c opportunity to visit all of the summer’s new exhibitions, including Emily Carr: On the Edge of Nowhere.

4. Score a great art purchase — Visit the gallery’s Art Rental & Sales’ Small Works Exhibition, representing almost 100 works from more than 75 artists whose smaller works range from $200 to $400.

5. Have a picnic — Stop by the Family Garden Café from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., where you’ll also fi nd tasty treats from Ali Baba Pizza, Rogers Chocolates’ Ice Cream and Level Ground Coff ee.

6. Relax & refresh — Th e gallery’s food and beverage garden is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will host entertainment from long-time Paint-In favourites, Kumbia, performing from 5 to 9 p.m.

7. Bring your own water bottle — Or get a cool Greater Victoria Art Gallery foldable, reusable one for a suggested $10 donation, and refi ll all bottles at any of the seven information booths along Moss Street or at the Art Gallery.

8. Go green — Help make the Paint-In an eco-friendly event by recycling. Recycling containers will be stationed throughout the route.

9. Be happy and enjoy... the sunshine, the talent, and the wonders of Moss Street and support the Art Gallery by making a donation with volunteers stationed at the yellow donation barrels along the way!
