Summertime at Lincoln Center is full of energy and excitement! Kids are out of school and out to lunch with parents and grandparents, or playing around at the Lincoln Center Kid’s Court. People are soaking up this beautiful, sunny weather while strolling through the Center or dining outdoors. Merchants are going to market to select new styles for the next season. I even get out of the office and into the Center much more, preparing for our LIVE! At Lincoln Center summer events.

Our first LIVE! of the season was a smashing success! Attendees tasted cheese, olive oil and wine from over 20 local wineries, while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and live music. We’d like to extend a big THANK YOU to all of the wineries and vendors that made this event possible.

Best of all, the event raised $4,000 for the YMCA of San Joaquin County, which is one of the oldest YMCAs in the world! The money will be put towards family and youth services such as preschool, before and after school child care, youth sports, teen enrichment, water safety-swimming and other local YMCA programs.

We’re going to keep this momentum going all summer long. Ride your bike to the Center on Friday, July 20th for our ReCycle LIVE!, which is a free Family Bike Night and Green Fair. We’re bringing back the 30-foot tall Fun Slide (pictured on the cover), a party hopper, clowns and other fun activities for the kids. Performance Bikes will offer bicycle safety checks and Fleet Feet will operate a bike check so you can park your bike and enjoy all the festivities. The Green Expo will feature local businesses that offer eco-friendly products and services so you can see how easy it is to protect our environment. And best of all, anyone who rides their bike to the event can enter to win a brand new bike from Performance Bikes! One adult bike and one child’s bike will be given away.

Then on August 17th, our Annual Classic Car Show is back! Come out for live music, great food and over 200 classic cars on display. Between sports games and summer vacations, I hope you’ll have time to make it out to these fabulous, family-friendly events!

Because sight is our most important sense, Philippe Starck and Alain Mikli have invented the glasses of the future. Their combined creativity and technical expertise have given birth to a new concept in optics: Biovision.

The Starck Eyes Collection, today’s successor to the conventional screw-hinge is a biomechanical articulation designed like a human micro-clavicle. Inspired by the arm’s natural intelligence, it shares the same multi-directional freedom of movement. As a result, the absence of screws in the bio-hinge assures constant pressure on the temples and provides better comfort. It’s truly a unisex frame that looks equally great on men or women. The newest technology is now available at Great Spectacles.

Walk into Meyers Fashion Optical and the smiling faces of Ken Meyers and Cheri Holmes will greet you. If you’re looking for unique, quality designer eyewear, you are in the right place. Owner Ken Meyers aims to build relationships with families and has seen three generations come through his doors.

Ken Meyers grew up in the Bay Area and has been interested in the eyewear industry his entire life, beginning his career in San Francisco. After years of working in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and throughout the area, Meyers moved to the Central Valley. For the past thirty-two years, he has been in Stockton and Lodi.

Meyers studied biology in college and then took optical courses and received certification from The American Board of Opticianry and the National Contact Lens Examiners. Cheri Holmes has worked with Meyers for eight years and has been in the optical industry for

thirty. With an experienced team, you know you will be getting superior service. Meyers Fashion Optical ensures that each customer is satisfied with their pair of glasses or contact lenses and will “go to the ends of earth to find something the customer will like,” according to Ken.

Meyers Fashion Optical aims to be ahead of the latest trend…they were even the first Oakley dealer in Stockton! Ken looks for the newest trends and styles and carries unique items.

When Meyers traveled to Europe last year, he noticed the prominence of colored framed glasses everywhere. After returning from his trip, Meyers brought these unique glasses into his store. With color blocking being a popular trend, they have a large variety of fun, colored glasses.

On Friday, July 20th, families are encouraged to ride their bikes to the Center for a free eco-friendly evening, “ReCycle”. Plus, anyone who rides their bicycle to the event can enter to win a brand new bike from Performance Bikes. Both an adult and child’s bike will be raffled off. There will also be a green expo showcasing local businesses with eco-friendly products and services, including Pacific Records Management, Allied Waste, Green Home Solutions, Doors Plus, Valley Clean Air Now, Onsite Electronics Recycling, Quality Office Liquidators and the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce. The Delta Velo Michael David Winery Cycling Team will also be on-site with information about joining their team. Guests will enjoy all this plus live music by The Summit Band and Frank Bailey, shopping, dining and special in-store promotions!

Sponsors, Berberian European Motors, Big Valley Ford Lincoln and Mataga of Stockton, are making the 2012 LIVE! events possible. L incoln Center has a variety of stores that offer stylish sunglasses. Whether you’re an athlete or fashionista, the options are endless! And there are many things to consider when purchasing a pair of sunglasses.

Are you active… or constantly on the water? For all of the boaters and water-lovers out there, polarized lenses are essential on your glasses. Polarized lenses cut glare and relax your eyes. The filters in polarized lenses block horizontal light waves and reduce eyestrain. They are perfect for a summer day, and anyone who spends time on the delta, lakes or by the pool.

It’s very important to make sure your sunglasses fit properly! They should fit snugly on your nose and ears but should not pinch the face at all. Eyelashes should not touch the frame of the glasses or the lenses. Along with proper fit, protection of your glasses is key. A protective case or storage clip helps glasses last for a long time. Also, a cleaning cloth is perfect to keep lenses fingerprint and smudge-free.

Stop by one of the boutiques in Lincoln Center and find the perfect pair to fit your needs and face! Our stores are your one-stop-shop for the current looks this year and the latest trends.

A Sun-Kissed Glow

Come into Merle Norman Cosmetics and visit spray-tan expert Stacy Hiley. She will get you the sun-kissed glow you’re looking for without the time and danger of the sun! Make an appointment, and in 5-10 minutes, you will be ready for summer!

Never spray tanned before? No problem! For the maximum benefit from your tan, exfoliate with a loofah or washcloth and body scrub before coming in for your session. “Rub firmly over your skin when showering. Pay particular attention to any rough areas. Make sure not to apply moisturizer, makeup or perfumes to your skin prior to the spray tan as this would reduce the effectiveness of your tan,” cautions Stacy.

Stacy utilizes SunFx equipment and solutions, which are all natural and include no alcohols, perfumes, artificial preservatives and parabens. The main ingredients of the tanning solutions are highly purified water, organic certified DHA, and either natural caramel or Aloe Vera leaf juice and green tea extract. These are all natural products that are good for your skin! Spray tanning is the best anti-aging option when it comes to tanning. “The Aloe Therapy solution contains green tea extract, which has antioxidant properties. The best anti-aging tool is to avoid tanning beds and overexposure of the sun. Spray tanning is a safe and easy alternative; so that in itself is anti-aging!” explains Hiley.

There are different shades and levels of the tanning solution. By using high-quality equipment and solutions, you’ll achieve an amazing all-over color that lasts five to seven days. Make your appointment at Merle Norman to get an amazing summer glow.
